What scope should I get for Remington 700 SPS?

I'm going to buy a Remington 700 SPS Rifle in .308.
It will be used for training/self defense from zombies a few hundred yards away and maybe someday I will try hunting a deer.

I will be shooting 50-400 yards.

I need recommendations on a good scope and scope mount.

I don't want to spend tons of money but I don't want junk either.

Links like on Midway USA or just names and models are ok

    Thanks

So far I will be buying:

    Remington 700 SPS
Harris S-BRM Bipod Leg Notch Sling Swivel Stud Mount 6" to 9" Black
    Marin County - Glock Armorer

Bushnel 3200 elite tac series either the 10x fixed or 5 to 25x.. Under $500 and a great scope. Bought one for temp use to bump to a night force and fell in love.

Clear glass and actually a very well made scope. Easily matches to my friends leopold $900 scope he paid for he even said he couldn't tell the difference when looking through both.

Has plenty of adjustment for me from 50 to about 1200 yards I've only shot 200 to 1000 with it so far mounted on my 20 MOA rail. Even handled a slight tip over on rock right onto the scope with a nice scratch and it still spot on.

Probably the best scope for the price range of $300 to $400 I'd even say it could hold its own at the $700 to $900 range as well IMO.

Knob adjustments are very positive as well and have decent sized turrets. Never seen a bad review about them either. Mines also mounted on a 700.

I am a Vortex PST fan, hard to beat the features and glass versus the price. Budget would help. If you are on a tight one a fixed optic from Bushnell or SWFA might be the way to go.

Like they have said cheapest scope I can ever recommend would be the Bushnell 3200 fixed 10. Make sure to get it with Mil knobs not MOA. The SWFA is another good fixed as well. Vortex PST is a great scope but sounds like a little more then you would like to spend. Look for an EGW 20 MOA base and Rings or TPS 20 MOA base and rings.

            Nikon Monarch 4-16x42

... and wouldn't you know it, I got one for sale HERE!

            ETA:

I actually bought this scope with the intention of picking up a Remington 700 SPS Varmint and slapping it on for a pretty decent budget-bolt-action setup.

Weaver tactical 3-15 emdr is my pick, best scope under $1000 imo. It's what I use and I have to say, it's clear, bright, and built like a tank.

                Nightforce 3-15x50mm F1
                Nightforce 2.5-10x32mm

In this case, since it's going on a bolt action and you might hunt with it...

At the ranges you are planning on shooting a scope over $500 is a waste of money.

Look at the new Redfield line of scopes from Leupold. They come with the same lifetime warranty that Leupold scopes have. They are very high quality with clear glass, nitrogen filled bodies, and wide fields of view. And they have gotten some very good reviews.
Here is Chuck Hawks review of the Redfield Revolution 4-12x40mm: http://www.chuckhawks.com/redfield_r...on_4-12x40.htm
Here is GunBlast's review of the Redfield Revolution 3-9x50mm: http://www.gunblast.com/Redfield.htm
Personally I have yet to see a customer review of less than 4 stars for these scopes on either Cabela's or BassPro's websites.

The most expensive of these new Redfield scopes are usually around $300 online. So for the price of a cheap imported scope you get a high quality U.S. made scope with a hell of a lifetime warranty (and I mean a hell of a warranty).

The warranty is so good that if you pickup a broken Redfield at a garage sale and send it in for repair they will repair it no questions asked. Plain and simple.

Midway has the Bushnell 3200 10x mildot (mil/mil) on sale for $199 right now. Mine just arrived and will be going on my Savage 10 LE. It was either the Bushnell or the SWFA 10x for $300. The sale coupled with me already having Burris xtr 1" rings made it an easy decision.

At 400 yards you probably could hit a zombie with iron sights.

Except maybe the 20MOA base, not really needed at those ranges.

Watch it with SWFA budget scopes my buddy had a 10x and the reticle had moved and sent it in for repair/replacement and recieved one which had knob slippage which they replaced again and again had another knobb problem but with windage instead of elivation like the last one.. He ended up buying a Nikon scope then sold his rifle.

So my confidante with SWFA is semi shotty after that. Although seeing a lot of positive about them what I've seen personally wasnt too good. Their CS was great tho.
