    chickened out

After failing to budge the front sight on a WASR with a sight adjustment tool chucked into a carpenter's brace

I chickened out at putting an impact driver on fearing that if it snapped off, I'm just not equipped to repair the damage and can't afford to have it done. I needed to raise the group about 3" which I figured to be about .020 added to the post to bring POA onto POI at 100 yds. So I just put a dab of JB weld on the top of the post and will file to suit. Not what I wanted but figured I prefer this to no post at all.

Uh, don't you have to lower the front sight post to raise your POI?

lol...you're doing it backwards. You need to lower your sight post to raise your poi.

Think about it, the higher your sight post, the lower your barrel goes when you line up the sights. And vice versa.

Front sight is near your enemy it does the opposite of what you want.
Rear sight is near you it does what you want

So yes to raise impact the front sight needs to be lowered.

                      a little heat might help.

Spend the $5 and get a tool that you can take to the range. Its a very cheap investment. I'm sure you could gather enough loose change in your house and your car to buy one.

Soak it in KROIL. It is a great creeping oil

Heat it up for 5 min with a hair dryer
                            Soak again
                            Let cool

                            Repeat

If it is cross threaded- this will not help
If it is stuck the heating and cooling along with a good penetrating oil will help
The metals heat and cool at different rates and it can help break the bond

Are you the original owner? Did anyone apply loctite to the threads?
