Alright I'll be serious now that I'm awake and (somewhat) rested.
Let me preface this by saying that ALL of these types of devices are illegal in California. They are considered "burst activators" and fall into the same category as machine guns, again only in California. Outside of this state, and maybe a couple others, these types of systems are legal. Machine guns are defined as any firearm that fires more than one shot for each pull of the trigger. That means if you have a device that attaches to or inside your gun that causes the gun to continually fire after the trigger is held down than it is a machine gun.
These are NOT machine guns or machine gun parts. These devices help actuate the trigger, trigger reset, trigger response, etc. to allow the trigger to be manipulated faster than normal, sometimes almost subconciously by the shooter. There are different methods and they all work fairly the same - crappy at best.
Some add a secondary trigger in front of the first trigger so that as you pull the trigger the gun fires, then as you release and depress the second trigger it fires, then the cycle is repeated. So it's like firing in semi-auto but twice as fast. Others put additional tension against the trigger forcing it to reset quicker. Once the gun is fired, with slight manipulation of your grasp, the trigger will reset under recoil and then if continued pressure is put on the trigger it will activate the trigger again and you will accomplish simulated full auto. There are also cranks with mulitple cams to actuate the trigger and other such devices. These are legal in most states, but are again illegal here.
There is also a method of perfmorming this without any devices and it's called "bump firing". Bump firing is accomplished by holding the firearm in a way that prevents your body from absorbing the recoil and instead allows the gun to move under full recoil. You then depress the trigger but maintain your finger's location in space. As the gun recoils, it moves rearward under recoil away from your stationary finger at which point you apply soft pressure to the rear of the gun to push it forward until it resets the trigger until it continues until it collides with your finger again and the process is restarted once again simulating full auto firing. This method is legal here and anywhere as you are still pulling the trigger only once for every bullet fired.
There are also methods and tricks to help with bump firing. Many people get confused as to what is legal and what isn't, but it's quite simple if you know the way they work. The rubber band referenced earlier is a trick devised by a gun on arfcom where a rubber band is placed in a U shape where the pistol grip of your AR, or other similar rifle, is in the bottom of the U and the top points are wrapped around your finger. It acts the same way as bump firing except it requires a little less dexterity because the elastic in the rubber band helps apply a continuous pressure to the gun which is one of the more difficult techniques to master. This is legal as it still requries your finger to pull the trigger each time the gun is fired.
The shoe string mentioned earlier is BAD. Many years ago it was discovered that a shoe string could be used to make a machine gun. This was done by tieing on end of the shoe string to the bolt handle/op rod of some guns, shuch as an M1A, and srapping the string in a way around the stock and tieing the other end to the trigger. As the bolt slammed home it put tension on the string which in turn depressed the trigger and fired the gun again. This is an automated process and is highly illegal because the string acts as an auto-sear.
There are many systems out there but none are very high quality so they tend to not get much praise or use, and some of them even damage the firearms. They aren't even worth the money they cost let alone the fact that they are all illegal here (except bump firing) so it's pointless to even look into them. Still, if you just want to know how they work the best thing you can do is learn the entire operation of your trigger and then look at pictures of the product. Once you know how the trigger works, the activators are quite simple, some bordering on something an elementary student could draw. Then again there are others that are quite ingenious, although the best example was recently declared a machine gun by the BATFE so you won't be seeing them in mass at all.
Hope that answers your question. Be safe, and legal, and don't do anything stupid. They aren't worth their cost let alone the possible risks they pose in this state.quemadmodum gladius neminem occidit, occidentis telum est. - Lucius Annaeus

Don't get offended.
If you get on here with a low post count and start asking questions about TicTac triggers which are illegal in CA we're going to be suspicious. Tip for new people.... Most questions have already been answered at some time or another. The search function is your friend. If nothing comes up try google, search term site:http://www.calguns.net
Newbies who want answers on OLL builds check the FAQs and Guides on the front page. 95% of all questions can probably be answered with a quick search. In conclusion, I you're new here welcome. Calguns is a very tight community, but we don't take kindly to people who try to ask leading questions. To quote Gene:
1. We're a force in the gun debate in California now. We're going to be a center of attention from all sides. Smile and bask in the fact that we're moving the ball in the right direction.
2. We've gotten to the point that FFL's are threatened to not tell customers to come to Calguns.net. I think its not we that need to be afraid if that's what is happening from people who this is a career for.
3. I welcome everyone from everyside of the issue and every LEA around to join in. I think the only thing is that being deceitful in Kestryll's house is a sign that you have some soul searching to do. This applies to anti-gunners and certain law enforcement equally.
4. A very large number of the very avid posters on this board are full time LEA and are not deceitful about it. They like building up toys just like all of us and they are one of our most valuable resources over the long haul.
Smile kids - we're in the spotlight.

Even if it were legal (which it is not), most people couldn't afford it anyway. Yeah, $34.99 sounds tempting, but you are failing to realize how much a day of shooting will cost @ 600-800 rounds per minute. It would make your head spin. If it were legal, I'd be broke as phuck

My thoughts as well.Even if it were legal (which it is not), most people couldn't afford it anyway. Yeah, $34.99 sounds tempting, but you are failing to realize how much a day of shooting will cost @ 600-800 rounds per minute. It would make your head spin. If it were legal, I'd be broke as phuck
Never understood the attraction or interest in these devices, especially now that ammunition is so damned expensive. You can't hit **** anyway, so what's the point?
Firecrackers would be cheaper and are only a misdemeanor to possess rather than a felony.Comment
