Most powerful, effective precision rifle for $5k legal in Cali...

Men I have had a few drinks tonight and now I am ready to refinance to buy the most badass rifle in Cali. I want semi-auto (gonna have to fix the damn mag) large caliber and accurate. The 5k price needs to include bipod, really good optics and mounts.

I think the Serbu BFG50A would be PERFECT but I don't think its available yet, no? Does Barrett have a M82A1 in 510DTC yet?

    thanks dudes no rush

I don't think the time to make significant financial decisions comes at 2:00 in the morning after several drinks ...

I don't want to sound like I'm telling you what to do with your life, but I would seriously reconsider refinancing if all you're going to do with it is spend the extra cash you get from it on something as frivolous as a gun. Especially a .50 cal.

I would kill for a Barret. Any model. Any caliber. But for a college student working part-time as a waiter for minimum wage, it's out of my price range. It sucks, but that's life. Besides, I know that if I'm patient that someday I'll probably have a nice job that allows me to spend my money on nice stuff like that.

Take a look at some of the cheaper .50's out there, particularly the AR upper models. I've been saving up money for my .50 cal since September, and by March I should have a complete rifle in .50DTC for under $1500. It may not be the *most* badass rifle in Cali, but I guarantee you it will get some looks at my local range.

      Just my .02, of course.

Does it have to be semi? If I was gonna drop large amounts of moneys on a tack driver id get a bolt action. Like the Accuracy International in .338 Lapua.

Bohica makes a 510 bolt action upper for like $1100 bucks. Maybe that'll save you from refinancing

You'll never get the "best" accuracy from a semi and, if you're good, you don't need a semi. I witnessed a world record being set with a shell holder action. The shooter got off all 5 rounds in less than 38 seconds and shot a 2.608" (I think) group at 1000 yards. So, that said, and with your price tag in mind, I'd consider an ALS upper in .510DTC. I got my entire package (less my lower) for under $5K. It included a BMG upper, bipod, front rail for BR shooting, ALS rear stock, Pelican case, integrated level, Jard custom trigger, NF 8-32 NXS and Badger rings. I just got it in April and I'm still learning how to shoot it yet, I took 5th place in Heavy gun agg. and 5th place in Heavy gun Score the weekend I recieved it. Then , in August, I took 3rd place in Heavy gun agg. (11.500" average 5 shot group @ 1000 yards) with it. My 13 year-old sot his first match and was able to post a 10.75" group with it. Since, I do not consider myself a great shooter nor, do I feel that my reloading practices are top notch (there are so many more things I could be doing to assure "perfect" ammo), I have to attribute my success to the gun! There is no record of a semi-auto 50 ever performing as well as I can shoot my single shots. So, if you want the percieved "cool" factor of a semi, get one. But, don't fool yourself into thinking that you'll be able to outshoot someone with a bolt action.

Well, considering .50BMG is banned in CA, i figured the fear-mongering would've naturally led legislation to banning a 1000-grain caliber
