Daniel Defense or Rock River Arms?

I have never owned an AR and had my heart set on purchasing the RRA Tactical Operator2. However, I was told to look into DD and to chose that over RRA.

Daniel Defense is more expensive, but it will probably be my only AR for the foreseeable future, I wouldn't mind putting the extra money into it if the quality is there to warrant the expense.

What do you guys think between these two brands?

I have an RRA carbine, and I'm happy with it. If I had to do it over, I'd go with a dedicated piston set-up (Sig, HK, Bushmaster, or FN). But a piston AR will cost you twice as much.

          DD hands down.

RR quality seems to be fairly good. DD quality is excellent. I doubt that you would notice the difference as a civilian.

There is nothing wrong with RRA. RRA has rifle options the customer can select which would make the rifle less desirable than a DD. DD just doesn't offer those selections which is why people think DD is "better".

A Top shelf RRA is the same as a top shelf DD.

You can't buy a Hybrid gas/electric Porsche or a Porsche pick-up truck....that doesn't mean all Porsches are better than Chevys. Don't even try telling me a Porsche Boxer is better than a Cadillac CTS.

In many parts of the country RRA is considered the top of the line manufacture since they deal with all types of AR15s. DD is a niche AR15 tailoring to guys who want a certain type of AR15.

Either of your selections are fine, but consider the replies here as a warning of how people will perceive your rifle. If AR15 snobbery will effect you and cause you concern, get the DD. I am not saying the people who replied here are snobs, just that this thread shows what many in community think of when you say, RRA.

There is even a "chart" that shows the low end RRA isn't as "good" as a standard DD...what the chart doesn't tell you is there are RRAs which are far better than the standard DD.

Basically if you want to impress the guys, you need to buy a DD....

I don't know but the amount of stuff that comes with the RR I would get the RR and put the rest on a optic for even a trigger. I remember when I first saw that rifle it was the coolest looking rifle to me. I still would get it. DD is not bad BUT the amount of stuff you get with the RR for that price!? Well you read what "I" had to say on it.

RRA is one of the top quality AR manufactures, so is DD. You won't go wrong with either one. Since the RRA you want is less expensive and provide you more options, go with RRA and save cash for ammo, optics, or training, etc. My 2c.

I don't have any experience with DD, but I'm sure they make quality rifles. I'm surprised at the amount of favortism DD gets over RRA. RRA makes a fine rifle. I have been very happy with mine. I would choose which rifle has the features you want and which has the lowest cost for your needs.
