Why does no one manufacture a ready made featureless AR that can use high capacity magazines straight out of the box. I would think lots of people would want such a rifle instead of something like a Keltec.

Why no Readymade Featureless AR's?

Cost mostly. Bullet buttons are cheaper, and featured rifles lets the gun stores sell more high-margin Magpul stuff.
It really isn't that hard to get one put together for featureless anyways, you just have to be a bit choosy on your parts. Avoid 14.5 uppers with pinned flash hiders. -
^^^ +1 for the cost. And how few are very interested in a featureless build?(\__/)

Featureless AR's wouldn't sell as fast as ones with BB's, they don't look as "tacticool". Ocationally I've come across ones that FFL's have received and converted to featureless just in case someone comes in looking for a rifle in that configuration.Originally posted by FalconLairI weep for my country and what it is becoming.Comment

Featureless is a niche of a niche. If you could legally buy standard cap mags there would be a market. Why market something that by its nature when sold has a feature (a 10 round mag) that makes the featureless nature worthless? If you have legally owned standard caps and can't deal with a bullet button and 10 rounders then you would seek out a featureless build. How many people does that really apply to? I would figure not enough to be profitable. I don't see many aks being sold with those horrible monte Carlo stock things anymore, mostly because the ergonomics of the design outweigh the freedom of featureless.I support peace through superior firepower.

But yes, they are nowhere near as popular as BB'd rifles.Comment

Its market forces. The average Joe who walks into the LGS wants the rifle that looks the most bada**. He's not interested in something that looks less cool but is actually functional and viable as a sd/hd rifle.Comment

IMHO I prefer feature less, why have a collapsible stock that never moves?sigpic

Bullet buttons suck. The day I got rid of mine was a great day.
This is especially true for anyone who trains or competes.Comment

It's always interesting to instruct a rifle/carbine class using a featureless demo weapon. Lots of, "How can you do that? Isn't that illegal?", followed by a brief explanation of featureless vs. bullet button, followed by little light bulbs over students' heads. Next class you see many of them running a featureless rifle.
The bottom line at the user end IMO is that most folks simply don't know about the featureless option. Far more show up instead with a magnetic or red BB tool attached to their featured rifle and have to be told to remove it and why.
For the retailer, though, it means they can't sell that customer the aforementioned high-margin Magpul stuff.Last edited by Grumpyoldretiredcop; 12-24-2011, 1:05 PM.I'm retired.
