    Tula Ammo problems?

    Hey ya'll,
Ive had my rifle for a while, Ive put all kinds of .223 ammo down the pipe with m193, m855, federal, brown bear, silver bear, wolf, and all the other stuff. But for some reason, Tula turns my rifle into a single shot. The usual problem is a FTE. The casing gets stuck no matter how hard I pull back on the charging handle, It wont eject. I have to get a cleaning rod and push it out from the front. When I check out the casing, you can tell where the extractor was pulling on it because there is a flat/broken spot where the extractor grabbed it. Also, I was having problems where the bolt would not pull back. I had to hammer the butt stock into the ground and pull down on the charging handle just to get it out. Just checking to see if its the ammo, or just time to replace the extractor spring?

Tula does that to my friend's RRA carbine upper. It eats everything but that. There are numerous complaints of it being under-powered. My Sig 556, my former C93 (hk 93 clone) eats it all day without a hitch, dirty as heck which may contribute to excessive chamber fouling leading to a stuck case.

If you shoot Tula ammo in an AR you have to keep the chamber clean and lubed. Use a chamber brush about every 50rds to 100rds. It works ok in my GPU though.

this is really really exciting to hear. Monkey wrench and Jchen especially, interesting to know. Because, my AK FAILS to eject the shell about every 3rd round with TULA and i have never figured it out yet. Great to hear others have same problems!!

Wolf, which is manufactured by Tula does that in one of my AR's. My Midlength to be exact. It came with a weak extractor spring and it had that same issue, where it was ripping the case rim where the extractor "claw" was grabbing on to it, or I would have to hard-yank my charging handle to get the sucker outta' there.

If your extractor spring has enough strength/tension it should not be ripping the case rim off at that portion, it should be completely grabbing it and SOLIDLY pulling that empty casing out of the chamber every time you fire.

Of course dirty powder in Russian ammo is also largely to blame for fouling of chambers, along with the steel casings that don't expand the same way brass does, allowing for quicker fouling to build up in the chamber. What someone said above was right, CLEAN your chamber meticulously when shooting Russian ammo, and buy the $5.00 BCM Extractor Upgrade Kit, it has their super strong spring, Mil-Spec Crane O-Ring (which adds even MORE tension), and Exctractor Insert. I've fixed my extraction issues with Wolf with this simple kit, more extractor tension really does make a "world" of difference.

Rock Islander. Thanks for the heads up. I plan on changing out the spring as soon as I get the chance. But yeah, It seems like Tula is the only ammo this happens with. Oh, yeah, its a DI AR

Try Brown Bear or Silver Bear instead. Usually about the same price as Tula, but a little higher quality.

+1..... by brothers Colt 6940 won't cycle ANY of it, and even though mine do, I simply choose to pay an extra $60/1000rds just to have full power 5.56 loads.

Only problem I've had, was an older lot# 5.45mm that was corrosive. Didn't know until the next weekend. Now I check lot#'s and do a wipe down after shooting that particular AR.

No issues with 5.56 or .308.
