I have a Strikefire on a Marlin 1895 SBL using a LaRue RAS II Q/D mount and it works great. It's survived 150 rounds of .45-70 so far and everyone that shot it liked the sight. I have the red / green version and mine is bright enough to use in mid-day sun in CA, so I have no complaints about it being "dim". The bonus is that it comes with a 2x magnifier that screws into the rear of the sight requiring NO separate mount. I think the Vortex Strikefire is well worth the $150 I paid for mine.
Oh yeah, I have an EO Tech 557 and a pair of Aimpoint Comp ML3's and I think the vortex compares favorably unless you need to use your gun for combat. The truth is that I can't afford to put 1st-class glass on every gun that I own. The Vortex carries a lifetime warranty but so far I haven't tested that.
