I assume because there are police in major cities that are intended to take up that peacekeeping duty, though that's not to say they're actually prepared for major disasters.

As per their congressional "roasting", all I could find was a pair of investigations into their security model, which found that it was one of "acceptance". Wherein you respect local customs, do your best to blend in, act like a native, and be cautious. Much as a single girl would in, say, New York City. It just so happens that the places these people choose to go are much, much more dangerous. And guess what - It's an underfunded agency called "The PEACE Corps". They can't go around packing heat; it undermines the credibility of the entire organization.

To Diesels reply on the AK video. I agree. I watched that video and thought I had missed something. An AK is good weapon dont get me wrong if I hadnt gotten an AR and already had a SKS I would get an AK-74. But whats with the AK owners thing about dirt. There should just be a separate forum for SHTF threads. I don't think we're anywhere good as a country and I do think we should have a gun on hand in case things get really bad, but all this Walter Mitty-ism and childish fantasies of patrolling our sectors of the apocalypse with our Magpul-furnitured M16s is fucking retarded. Buy a rifle for hunting, buy a pistol for carry, do either one for shooting at the range. But don't get "tactical" weapons because you think the S is gonna H the F. If it does, all you're gonna need is a shoulder-fired weapon that you can defend your home with. Anything else and you're going to be an aggressor, and if that's what your getting all this gear to be, see point A.) and join the Army. Otherwise, at the very least admit that you're doing it because you think it's cool. In all honestly, that will be my primary motivation behind buying an AR or setting up rails and a pistol grip on a Saiga - because it's ****ING AWESOME! Also, I don't want to join the Army. But I do like guns, and since I'm among people who like guns, that's totally cool!

I can tell you a real SHTF situation, back in 1975 my parents had to escape from the communist reign. My father and uncle were in the secret force and they had to flea the country. They had weapons (M16's) and plenty of ammo. The last thing ok ther mind was to carry weapons. They packed us and food/water and headed to the Thailand boarder as fast as they can.

Those who carried weapons has heavy confrontations with the communist party and most if not all of those in the group either killed or captured, tourchured and killed. Those who escape usually were the ones without weapons. Somehow, it just turned out that way.
