yes, they work. They do vary in quality. nice as they save time and money wasting ammo. If you have many AR's it really comes in handy.

they really help when sighting in a scope, at 100yrds.. gets you on paper much faster or whatever your desired zero is.. and then you adjust from there.. with iron sights when a 100yrd zero or whatever your desired zero is.. yes they will help, get you on paper faster.. then adjust from there..

so a simple answer yes they help..

I recently switched to the Leupold zero parallax device that seems to be working well. A bit on the pricey side but easy to use and get things close to zero

I almost bought a laser bore sighter some time back. After reading a few reviews I took into account the short battery life, batteries dead when it was needed, finding replacement batteries, cost of replacement batteries and getting on the sheet at 100 not so accurate I opted for doing it the old fashioned way.

Lately I just take the rifle to an indoor range, fire at 15 yards, adjust, fire, adjust, etc. Then I set the target as far back as it will go (usually 25 yards) and zero for that distance. Once at an outdoor range, I set up a Shoot-n-C sticker and 50, 100 and 200 (if that's my final zero) and adjust as required.

I remounted a VX3 in a Larue mount and it took about 20 shots to completely dial it in ($10 worth), some guys like Diesel could probably do it in half that. For the scopes it really helps having someone spot for those initial few shots to determine if you are are way off the target and what direction. I fundamental understanding of MOA or MILs will get you into the bullseye quicker than SWAG.

If you have a way to hold your upper steady, you can look through the bore, center the target then adjust your sights for the same point of aim.

That requires no batteries and no ammo.

It is the method I used to get my friends .50 BMG on paper at 50 yards.

yes they work... IMO not worth the $40...

lasers are desigined to get you on paper not to be the end all be all of sighting in a rifle.. you have a rifle with a bore/barrel that you can look through... lay it on a table/bench.. look through it.. adjust your sights to hit what you see through the barrel... put a round through it and you should be on paper.. adjust as needed..
Boy the way Glen Miller played, songs that made the hit parade, guys like us we had it made, those were the days, and you know where you were then, girls were girls and men were men, mister we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again, didn't need no welfare states everybody pulled his weight, gee our old Lasalle ran great, those were the days!

I have a bushnell that I've had for a year and love it, it's not the round style laser but the bore sighter that attaches at the end of a number caliber rifle/pistols. anyway they are great to get you on paper and well worth the $35 i paid for it shipped.

They get you on paper, but you'll still need to adjust when you put real ammo in.

                        1. Take the upper off the AR and remove the bolt.

                        2. Put the upper on a rest, clamp, bags, whatever. Just make sure it's stable.

                        3. Look down the bore at a target setup at, let's say, 50 yards.

                        4. Look down the sights.

                        5. Adjust the sights until the target is in the middle of the POA.

                        6. Put the upper back on the rifle and zero it. You'll only need 2 shots to zero if you do it right. I often get sloppy though and use more like 5.

...had this technique shown to me on a bolt-action rifle and I decided to use it with my ARs too. It's a little more complicated because you have to remove the upper inste4ad of just the bolt but it'll get you on paper every time guaranteed. You'd have to re-zero your rifle a hundred times to make it less cost-effective than a laser boresight.

^This. Save yourself the money. This works better than the boresights, and costs you no money.

I have several rifles and got them all on paper with one of those sightmarks..worked pretty good overall.. I also have the Bushnell magnetic one works on all rifles and handguns and shotguns and different calibers.. makes it easy as pie

I bought 2, one was an accident. In the quantity box I marked it wrong. If you were closer you could have one of them for free.
I didn't find it all that useful to tell you the truth. I hit paper on the first shot with just a simple, this looks good install. Sure I hit the paper at 25 yards, but nowhere close to center. So I adjusted as needed and walked the holes right in to center. Set up for 50 yards and found that for some reason I was shooting high. So I adjusted again then went for 100 yards. A few more small adjustments and done deal.
Did I shoot more rounds then the other guy? sure, but I was gonna anyway. At least I know that I can adjust my rifle anytime I need to.
Just go shoot it and you will learn the hard way, and I bet you will be better with the knowledge that you can switch sights around and get results quickly.
                              Be careful and have fun.
