Mega Ma-Ten -or- JD Machine .308 set v.AR-10

Apologies if this topic has been brought up already, I tried searching and could find no comparison.

So I've decided on an AR-10 style build. The black rifle disease didn't stop after my first AR-15. It's primary use will be hunting hog/deer and for a few range trips. What I know now is that I'd like to use one of these two receivers. It seems easier to go the DPMS style route.

I'd like to support a California mfg and go with JD Machine, but have heard more about the Mega Ma-Ten set. Additionally, a vendor that I like to support sells the Ma-Ten set, MidwestPX.

As far as technical specifications, I can't see a difference between the two. Performance wise, I'd like to think they'd be the same. Fit and finish are both superb, I'm sure. But this is all speculation, and I'd like to hear from owners or those who have had experience with either platform. Thanks!

FOR THOSE SEARCHING AND LOOKING FOR SIMILAR ANSWERS: A big difference between the two lower sets are that the Mega Ma-Ten set does NOT have FA, while JD machine does.

Go with whichever you can get the cheapest. The lower is just there to hold the other parts in place. I am all for supporting JD, as I really like their stuff. But I can't justify paying significantly more for a part holder.

It isn't a significant price jump, though I do believe the Ma-Ten comes with *slightly* more at a cheaper price. IIRC, the Ma-Ten set is ~600 and the JD Machine set comes in at ~650.

        For the Mega Ma-Ten:
Included in this new platform: upper receiver, lower receiver, billet charging handle, threaded bolt catch pin, take down pins, dust cover door & upper receiver tensioning screw.
        For the JD Machine set:
        This receiver set comes with:
An integrated logo that spans both the lower and upper receiver.
A built in Winter Trigger Guard.
A Set Screw for the rear takedown detent spring.
Only significant difference I see between the two sets are that the Mega combo comes with a charging handle. I'd imagine any LPK set I purchase will come with takedown pins, unless the ones from the Mega Ma-Ten are proprietary to their design?

Thanks for the suggestion, but San Fernando Valley would be too far a trip for me, as well as SD.

I probably should have stated that I'm from the SF Bay Area.

Just make sure they have the parts in stock tho. Their wait time for backorders is kinda like Botach.

It's just a lower. Spend your time thinking about the upper. Much more important.

I've seen the JD Machine matched sets at gunshows for $550.
Using gun control to stop crime is like trying to put out a fire with gasoline!

The discussion is regarding a matched receivers set, upper & lower.

Build a rapport with them (Jessie, Eric, Nam etc....) and you'll get a much better deal

I would get a Mega set. Its less expensive, more unique, appears to be SR-25 compatible, and it comes with a cool charging handle.

JD is cool........but Mega is definitely cooler.

It appears that I wouldn't be at a disadvantage regardless of which matched set I choose. Just wanted to post to see if there were any known differences.

                          Thanks for the input everybody.

Didn't JD just get in big trouble for bribing a military official for a government contract? I tried to order that same matched set and waited and waited until I gave up.
