The problem was with the ammo. Case head separations are caused by excessive headspace and/or brass which has been used too many times and develops a thin ring just above the case head. The fact that it was reloads points to human error but, similar things were happening with FACTORY Remington .223 which lacked flash holes, just a few years ago. I don't have a problem running reloads if I know and trust who loaded them.

If you know the vendor you bought them from, contact him and see if he is willing to stand behind his product. Otherwise, you're probably SOL.

Sorry to hear about your Kaboom. Glad you didn't get hurt.

Since I don't roll my own, I only use factory ammo. Haven't had a gun blow up on me yet.

BTW this is another great reason to wear eye protection at the range.

Sorry about your rifle. Glad you're okay though.

No reloads for me unless I start doing my own. Even then, I've heard that the cost of equipment, powder, casings, etc. eventually adds up and it takes quite a while before one actually starts to see any sort of savings.

how did your buddy confirm it wasn't a squib? If you the guy firing the gun didn't notice a squib...how the heck is an onlooker going to?

If his buddy was spotting for him, and saw a hole appear in the target it would be pretty easy to confirm it wasn't a squib.

He knew it wasnt a squib cuz he saw the round before hit the dirt since i was not firing in rapid succession and it was at a private berm.

The reloads were Miwall. I guess i will try to contact them and see what they say.

NEVER buy any reloads from anyone you wouldn't trust with your life.

the ammo was purchased from Miwall. one of the largest "wholesale" ammo distributors at the gun show. so it aint some joe smo at the corner. the booth was located right at the entrance of the gun show in OC fairgrounds on the 30th if anyone recalled them?

The media was right all along. Those evil black rifles are deadly!!! On, serious note i'd suspect the reloads. I've seen too many problems with people using other peoples reloads.
