Does this ammo can lock require drilling?

Just wondering if anyone has used this ammo can lock from CTD and if so could you tell me if you have to drill into the ammo can?

The other lock thay have you have to drill which I am trying to avoid if possible.

I wouldn't buy anything from CTD. There are other companies that support California.

no drilling for those...

theres 3 pieces
-lock
-"L" bar
-nub with a hole in it

the nub with the hole in it (what the lock goes though) sits behind the latch on the can with the nub poking though the hole.. then the "L" bar fits over that and gets locked in place..

for $0.40 worth of material they do a decent job of keeping children out.. teens/adults will be able to bend the bar out of the way and open the can... the guy selling the 3 packs of ammo cans at the crossroads show usuially has some but i dont remember his price


if its a matter of drilling a hole feel free to stop by and ill let you borrow some tools (not everyone has tools.. i get that and its ok)..

2. Buy a lock for your closet that you keep the cans in. Done.

I 2nd that, do not buy anything from cheaper than dirt or their real name is, NOT cheaper that dirt. They are a very TIRED and WEAK outfit. They suck period.

I have some tools to drill but don't want to get a lot small metal shards from drilling and sanding all over the garage because I have kids running around out there barefoot all the time.

Just as long as the locks keep out small kids I'm fine with it...not really looking for it to be uased as a safe, just to kep prying curious hands out...

Just a quick follow up. Take a look at your ammo can handles.

That hole is already there on mine.

The hole ont he lever that openes the can is already there but some locks, like this one: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ZAA030-1.html require you to drill the actuall wall of the ammo can which I was trying to avoid...anyways that link above is for an ammo can lock whcih is the same price and does not require drilling so the choice is easy.

Those are both really good ideas, didn;t think about magnet cleanup ...but doing at your buddies house is even better heh!

if you have the smaller ammo cans (200 round 762) with the large hole in the latch you can use these locks and just lock them to the wire handle.. its ugly and they dont stack as well but they work great...



seriously though... drill some metal in the garage.. thats what its there for.. make a mess, get dirty.. dump some oil on the ground.. BE A MAN!!.. a garage is where work gets done.. its not just a place for your wife to park the minivan..
or pick up a stackon rifle safe.. they are on sale at turners every few weeks for like $110.. makes a great ammo locker
