The Ruger looks nice, but it's priced too high IMO.

    Here's my scout - in 45-70.

Everything you see here cost less than the base price of the Ruger before tax.

Are we talking some of the bad old Mini 14's that got a bad rap or the good ones...? I think that is just your way to dig on Ruger maybe...? I have a old Mini that is pretty accurate and the new ones ROCK... Why would this rifle that holds NOTHING in common have anything to do with a Mini anyway? But I agree the price is a little steep...

I had a Mini-14 back in 1986, shot great. Regret for having to sold it for a Colt Sporter in 1987. Not really, just a figure of speech. What I should have done knowing what I know today, kept the Mini and pay for the new Colt with a credit card. But being that I was two years out of college and had lots of other financial responsibility, I could only afford to keep one rifle. Fast forward 17yrs later, a good friend inquired about a Mini-14 in 2004 and I gave it double thumbs up recommendation from my past experience. Low and behold I was not aware that these newer Mini-14 at that time had huge accuracy issues when the barrel overheats. Would I buy another Mini-14 today if I had the chance? no, I would not. Does this makes me a Mini-14 guru or a Mini-14 know it all? no, it doesnt. But I do know it cost me $300 out of pocket for poor advise to a good friend. Do I currently own other Ruger firearms in my collection? yes, I do. PC9, PC40, P85 MARK2 and a P91. Anyways, back on topic. If this Scout Rifle is as good as the media reviews make it out to be, I have no hesitation to spend more moola on more guns. Then again, knowing Ruger the manufacture, I rather wait to hear from noncommercial reviewers first.

Handled one today in a local shop - was very lightweight and felt pretty good in my arms. Not sure how it shoots, but I wouldn't mind owning one.

I like everything about it other than the stock color. A synthetic black stock would make it complete.

Other than that, (and the rather high price tag) I think it could be an awesome rifle.

Buds is out of stock as well; last asking price was $720.

Doh I was so preoccupied with other stuff, I didn't even think to check. The shop owner just handed it to me to check out while I was looking at an AR.

Wait a minute...I thought these were supposed to be $995?? You mean that guns don't actually sell for the MSRP?? My dealer quoted me $780 Buds is $720 plus transfer fees. So now that we are getting the actual street prices I would like to see how all the folks who bemoaned the price build a Scout Rifle with a modern rifle, detachable magazine and iron sights for $750. I think Ruger is right in there price wise and will sell quite a few of these...

The price needs to be half of what it is. It has to accept FAL or M14 mags because Ruger mags are outrageously overpriced.
