    New SKS!!!

Shot a buddy's SKS a month or so ago and decided I had to have one. My local Big-5 had one in stock that was unissued. Essentially new condition, though the cosmoline was 1/4" thick.

Their normal price is $499, but I took a chance and waited for the Black Friday sale and was first in line at 5 AM and picked it up (and a Mosin) for $379.

Basically in like new condition and it's the model with the flip up night-sights. Very cool.

All matching serial numbers, including the stock. Man, they put serial #'s on EVERYTHING.

Took them shooting today and had a blast. SKS is a heck of a lot of fun. I must have put 100 rounds through it. Surprisingly accurate, despite the sun being at an odd angle.

Hope you enjoy the before and after pics. Last two pics below show the rifle all cleaned up. Man, that took a long time.

    Regards,

    John

Very nice looking SKS, a bit spendy for me but I guess times(read, prices) are changing. I can't believe how much they have gone up in the last couple years.
Glad to hear you enjoy it!

Very nice! Contact Orcutt about what he did for our new SKS stocks to protect them but keep them original looking, he had a great cheap solution.

Don't be concerned. She'll remain bone stock. Only mods I may make are to smooth out the trigger and perhaps remove the clunky muzzle brake in favor of a nicer, Tapco brake.

Baked the stock in the oven last night at 150 for about an hour. Pulled it out every 15 minutes to wipe off the cos that had weeped out and to check on it. This worked very well and the stock is coming along nicely.

Once it is cos free, I'll apply a nice oil finish to it and it'll really shine!!!!!

              Very cool.
That gun is in pretty good shape.

I remember a few years back I went to Turners in Reseda and this mom was buying a Yugo SKS for her kid that had a ****ing BURNT stock lol. I cant believe Century would have sold that without replacing it with a stock, even if it were made from the bones of one of their sweat shop employees.

Yugo SKS, very nice. You may not know this, but the Yugo SKS is by far the greatest semi-auto milsurp rifle ever made.

I didn't know that. I will say that it is a well made rifle. Made with very nice steel and it performed flawlessly.

The quick reloading with the 10 round stripper clip is very cool.

The felt recoil is about the same as an AR in .223. Very light, which makes for quick target acquisition.

Also took out the "new" Mosin which I also picked up yesteday, and, well......the recoil was a bit more substantial.

Visualize a 65 year old, 12 gauge shotgun with a solid steel plate as the recoil "pad".

I put well over 100 rounds through the SKS and bowed out after 20 rounds through the Mosin.

My goodness but that is a man-tamer.....
