This isn't an SKS, its better. Its a Zastava M-59/66. Manufactured in Kragujevac, Serbia. I have the more rare M-59, mine never had the grenade launcher. That flash hider you have up front used to be a grenade launcher.

Thanks for the reply. I actually knew that, though only because I looked it up. There are a lot of very good resources out there. Have you checked out Yooper John's site? Click on the SKS link on the left side of his page, then scroll down. He's quite the researcher.

Yooper John's information on Guns from Mauser to SKS and collectibles.

BTW, according to this very helpful Calguns link, (Post #7) my "SKS" was built in 1973 and has phosphorous flip up night sights.

There is tons of good info out there on SKS's. 10-15 years ago, they were sort of the Mosin's of their time. You could pick them up for well under $100.

Now, they go for three times that and the good, unissued ones are becoming more and more rare.

Heck, I may need to give some thought to getting a "spare".

BTW, on another forum (SKS forum??) I read a great post by a guy who was originally from Yukoslavia who decided to finally find out why the Yugo SKS's are not chrome lined. He researched and found the guy who headed up the arms manufacturing in Yugoslavia at the time and wrote him a letter. He got a reply and posted the results.

Are you the guy who wrote the letter by any chance? Just wondering.

If so, that was a great read!!! Very informative!!
