Yeah, makes me wonder why you'd even want one.Comment

Why do I want anything? I'm crazy and crazy has no reason. Maybe I like the ergos of the AR platform but don't want to deal with 10rd mags or some non pistol grip thing. Anyhow, it looks like you can cram 15+ 9mm rds in a tubular mag.
As for where to put it. Maybe under the barrel like a Marlin 60. It's just an idea. Whether it comes into fruition is another thing.
Maybe something like this. I dunno if it will even work but just a thought.Attached FilesLast edited by frigginchi; 07-19-2010, 9:40 AM.Comment

What you're talking about entails literally an entirely new weapon. If you look at the dimensions involved, it's just not feasible. The tubular magazine would not fit under the handguard and still clear the barrel nut. If you move it down to clear the nut, you're now in the lower receiver. In the lower there's not enough room to implement the loading ramp mechanism as far as I can tell. Then anotherhorsePONY came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make men slay each other. To him was given a huge sword. My kinda guy.Comment

You could make it feed along the left side of the upper, but it would require substantial re-engineering, and would add moving parts to the system and more potential failure pointsComment

Haha. Sorry for crapping your thread.
I'm just having a hard time seeing how a tube fed AR would work, unless perhaps it was set up like the AR57 with the mag on top. Marlin already has it figured out for their .22's, extending it to the camp carbine concept (say that ten times fast) just makes sense, esthetically, ergonomically, mechanically. I'm going to go write them a letter, thanks for the suggestion.Comment

Screw that, of they re release the camp carbine they just need to make it take glock magsComment

The tube can go anywhere. Its just the feeding mechanism has no room to go. Instead of a simple mechanical thing like a spring pushing the rounds up, you'll need to somehow scoop the round out of the tube and into the chamber. There just isn't enough room in the existing design to put all these additions into it.Wanna learn to shoot SKEET? I am here to introduce all shooters to the sport of SKEET Shooting ....

How about a magazine that runs above the receiver and all the way back into the spine of a fixed stock? Change it to a side charger and have the magazine run above the buffer tube. Then anotherhorsePONY came out, a fiery red one. but since it can't be over 10-rounds, why would a 10-round tubular mag be better than a 10-round box mag that can be removed with a tool?Jack
Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?
