Recommendations for Muzzle Brake for .308

Looking for recommendations for a muzzle brake for .308 with the 1/2 x 28 thread pattern.

I purchased a couple brakes from POF for different .223 builds that I have and they work well. I spoke with them concerning the .308 brake that I need, they cannot accommodate. I also asked if they could create a custom brake, he said they do not do that.

What muzzle brake would you install onto a DSArms FAL with a 16" fluted barrel? Mine has the shortened gas system, pretty lightweight.

No sure you want a muzzle brake on your 308. My DPMS AR10 without muzzle brake is sub-mob and 800 yrds easy. With muzzle brake, it is more like 4" mob and forget about 800 yrds.

I believe Vais has one in that thread pattern. For maddoggie, if the brake is hurting your accuracy that bad, you have other issues.

Just to start from square one, you're barrel is definitely AR 308 type threaded 1/2X28 rather than the usual 9/16X24 LH thread that DSA uses on their FALS, correct?

I use a plain old Armalite brake on my AR 308 and also use an Ops Inc on an FN SPR. DPMS has alot of 308 brakes, the Miculik is available in 308 and works well - unless you're shooting "next door" to it.

The Ops Inc has threads on the outside of the device also.

On the off chance you have the conventional FAL threading, I use the Austrian style short STG58 brake on mine.

I appreciate your feedback. I do have the Tactical Carbine http://www.dsarms.com/SA58-FALTactic...tinfo/SA58TAC/ DSArms claims it is 1/2x28. For a FAL this rig is light. I would like a little more control with follow up shots. I will check out the brakes you recommend. Thanks again.

I run the new one offered by PWS / DNTC for the FAL. It's not cheap but works very well. It's the same as the PWS FSC 5.56 bored to 7.62. I believe the have it in your thread pitch. Also try SureFire and AAC both also make comps in your thread pitch.

If you like the POF 5.56 brakes, buy one and get the front hole opened up to .338 or something. That should do the trick

                      +1

The standard 5.56mm POF brake could easily be opened up to accomodate the 7.62 bullets.

Using the A2 is an interesting approach, but since most 1/2X28 brakes have a 223 opening that makes the pickings kind of slim. I have a JTAC brake with 1/2X28 and 30 cal opening on my 7.62X39 AR upper. Had a heck of a time finding one, it's intended use is on AK pistols with AR threads. Works very well, not too much $$$.

1/2-28 is really too small for 30 caliber barrels.
It leaves a thin barrel at the root of the threads.
9mm is even worse with 1/2-28 or 1/2-36 threads...
