    Coalinga Airport

That's a joke right? I don't think Coalinga has an airport, there is a little landing strip by Harris Ranch Restaurant and Avenal has an airport of sorts. It's about 12 miles from I-5 and the 33 exit to the range.

Why would that be a joke?

I've flown into Harris Ranch about a zillion times for a burger. Coalinga does have a municipal airport and it isn't very far from the shooting range, now that I look at the map. However, I don't know if ground transportation is available from the airport.

One of the many advantages of owning a small plane. I'm not limited to flying to big giant jet airports with air carrier rules if you catch my drift.

In fact, a great many small towns in California have airports that no one except pilots know about.

I had a shooter that almost flew in from Texas for a FCSA match a few years back. We where going to pick him up and take him to the range. I don't know what ground transportation is available.

You should come out and join the fun. Half the shooters are from out of state. We even had one fly in from Switzerland.

I need to figure out the paperwork.
I don't want to risk being on the front page of Kern or LA county paper!

My main goal is Coalinga and New Mexico. Since I live in Arizona.

I wrote an article for the VHP that covers just that. It is with all the match info on the FCSA's website. Feel free to contact me if you have questions. Main thing is to come straight to and from the match (don't tie it to a trip to Disneyland ) and use a locked case for transport. I do tell everyone from out of state to preregister and I send them back a signed copy of the registration for the match.

                        KillerRabbitt,

Thanks for the offer! As I understand it, I can only enter if I say I know you, even then with a 5 dollar fee. Right? What exactly is the process for entering without a membership? What time do they start for the 3X600? What's the best time to show up?

Usually if it is a match the gate is open and come in to shoot the match, pay whatever match fee's there are. Maybe touch bases with the match director before hand. On day's when there isn't a match, the gate is locked and you need a member to let you in as there guest (members have the code for the gate).

It is my understanding that there is a cap to the number of members due to insurance and that is currently full but you do not have to be a member of the Coalinga club to shoot at a match there.

I'm going to try and come out to the next match.

                              Haggard36:
You do not have to be a club member to shoot a match. We squad between 7 and 7:30 the match fee is $20. For $2 more you can even eat hot dogs after the match.
