I'd just low-mount any RDS on the stock rifle and call it good if you don't care about co-witness. Adjusted for a really tight fit, this take-down system seems to return to zero. I don't notice the front sight shooting it now with a FF3 or SPUR. Won't bother me with Brian's mount either... probably only notice it if I need to aim with dead batteries.

I'm still going to run one co-witnessed though

The front and rear sight are held on with a couple of screws.

OK, I have good news and bad news from the install...

Good news: I got it mounted with one of my red dots and it co-witnesses

Bad news: TWO red dots I tried were too high to co-witness

SHORT STORY as I know it right now, tube style are lower. NIKON SPUR with included low mount will not work. RMR 06 with UTG LOW MOUNT will not work (sits even higher than the SPUR)

VORTEX CROSSFIRE RD-1 works perfectly similarly to the pics from Brian's IG...

BIG BAM BOO can comment on how his is setup and if there are any differences in his prototype that he knows of. I know he uses a RMR type in his videos, but I think it is a VORTEX and it appears to sit really low.

              PICS:

              NO GO for these:

Now, this is no big deal for me. I have lots of red dots and can move them around. For me, I ended up stealing a RD-1 from a SIG522 and it got a NIKON SPUR. Good fit for both rifles. I am happy.

BUT if you got a RMR or SPUR etc... it may not do what you expect.

I didn't try a FF3 with the included Burris low mount but I can do that later... I have one on a shotgun I can move. Done for tonight though. Hope this helps someone.

My only optic I have that co witness is a TRS-25 with this mount. ROMEO 5 and PA MD-RBGII both don’t co witness with the low mount.

I use a Vortex Razor specific mount with the iron sights removed.

I'm trying to decide if I want/need this.

My question for it would be in regards to zero retention.

Is there enough of a zero shift due to taking the rifle down/reassembly vs the barrel mounted optic to justify the added cost?

I'm not opposed to spending the $$, but only if the ends justify the means.

Issues of cheekweld aside. I don't currently compete, so repeatable cheekweld is less of a concern for me. I can be as accurate as I need it to be with the optic mounted on the receiver.

From my first hand experience of owning 5 pistol caliber carbines....all of them AR platforms except for the Ruger. The accuracy of ANY of my rigs comes down to the ammo used.

Let’s face it, a PCC is a 50 yard rig...yeh, yeh, you can shoot them out to 100+ yards and hit stuff with them.

But the same can be said about a pistol as well.

So at 50 yards most of my PCC will shoot 4” +/- five shot groups with WWB ammo.
If I feed them say Buffalo Bore, I can get 1-2” groups.

Where am I going with this? You asked if breaking the Ruger down will cause shift of zero.
IMHO not enough that you would probably notice unless you are shooting from a bench and shooting for groups.

If it is a plinking toy, then who cares as long as you can shoot minute of beer can? Mount your sight where you feel most comfortable with and call it good.

There is a perfectly good rail on the receiver. IMHO, the rifle needs to be tightened down so it is difficult to turn the take-down mechanism, but if you do that the zero is fine. I take it to the range in two pieces. Seems to be on target with RDS on the receiver.

If you want co-witness, $60 is worth it. One of mine will be setup with a PMM handguard, Brian's co-witness mount with the Crossfire RD-1. The other will probably end up with a RMR or FF3 on the receiver and look stock.

Both work IMHO. I'd like to have one where I can see the irons through the RDS and be able to keep running it if the battery dies or just turn it off if I prefer.

Everyone is not so picky, and some people are more picky. Do what you want. I think Ruger's design is sound enough. People like to modify things.

Yep, I agree with crufflers and BBB, there are plenty of ways to turn a $500 gun into a $1000 gun, but at the end of the day, it will still shoot like a $500 gun.

Not exactly what I said. But I hear you.

If you can shoot peeps as well as a decent red dot. Otherwise, no. Most people would not shoot irons as well as an RDS.

If you take a $500 rifle that doesn't come with sights or scope and make it into a $1000 rifle... it doesn't shoot like a $500 rifle.

Whelp. For better or worse, mine is now a $1000 rifle.

I'm very happy with how it shoots. It was between this and a CZ EVO, and I'm glad I got this. Saved $100 and didn't have to buy new mags!
