Here's a refurbished, complete Chiappa 22LR upper for $130 shipped (no mags):

I bought a chiappa 22LR upper new (for $199) and have never had a problem with it. Definitely recommended for a budget build.

      .22lr AR-15 questions

Which magazines are you using with the chiappa upper?
Also did you order from that vendor? That price looks very good. After a few magazines it should be well under $200.

I have a dedicated 22lr upper built by cmmg.

Has a special adapter that allows for bolt lock back on the final round and also allows for the use of the ping pong paddle.

It is absolutely awesome and I've ran countless thousands of rounds through it.

Don't know if the uramex plastic rifles can keep up... Maybe they can but I know my cmmg will last a long time. Extremely happy with mine.

I think the black dog magazines along with the ATI mags they sell work for that. Does the bolt hold open on that upper though? Not a deal breaker, just curious.

Man. Debating on this with a few mags or another 10/22 for my daughter. Both would be about the same price.

              have you found your gun?

last time I was @ GFOS in Dublin, they had a Colt AR15 in .22LR, it was used, and like $450 I think

But then again, you can build your own AR15 for $100 more than that......

CA DOJ BOF stance on modifying handguns only applies to dimensionally compliant bolt-action single-shot pistols and dimensionally compliant break-open single-shot pistols.
^It does not apply to revolvers, manually operated repeating pistols, and semi-auto pistols." ~~ Quiet

Yes, I ordered mine from that vendor. At the time it included 1 magazine with a new upper for $200 shipped. I bought a spare mag online (vender I used doesn't have any in stock). A quick google search found this one: link. Like taktiks said, black dog magazines work as well, IIRC.

Yes, the bolt holds open on an empty magazine.

                  I love AR15 .22 uppers.

I built this gun a few weeks ago.
Rock River arms PDS lower milled out to fit a RDIAS
                  SIG MPX side folder
                  CMMG 4.5" barrel
CMMG .22lr bcg with auto sear trip and anti bounce weight
VLTOR CASV to make it easy to remove Silencerco Spectre II
Black DOg 50 round drums mostly but i have stick mags and a couple american 180 275 round drums for it.

I'm still playing with the hammer spring. That is the weak part of any .22 build. There is barely enough power to cycle the bolt back fully. It will usually be fine in semi autos since there is not much going on. Most guys grind off the back of the hammer spur if they have problems. Using a light weight hammer spring like a JP or one out of a S&W M&P15-22 will also help. You can also bend the hammer spring legs so it is weaker or put one leg under the roll pin so it touches the bottom of the receiver. Any of these mods will make the gun less reliable with 556/223 ammo so don;t use these methods on a defense gun.

I have a 16" core 15 barrel I never shot and a skinny quad rail made for .22lr. It was a complete Core 15 upper but I took it apart for other builds. I could let those parts go at a big discount since they are just sitting in my AR parts case and will never be used. It would just need a cmmg bcg and mags.

I have a Green Mountain 1/12 twist AR upper that also shoots .22LR badly. That twist did not help. That non-chrome 1/9 is so much better. It does a 1/3" group at 25 yards.

                      a Used Chiappa 22 upper for $150 with magazines http://hamlundtactical.com/catalog/i...ducts_id=15270 @ $20 a piece after shipping

so you are looking at a used plinker .22 with 2 mags under $200 I am not sold as to whether or not this would shoot more accurate then a conversion BCG at the same price.

Since oyu do not already have ar mags I suggest oyu get the S&W adapter and buy S&W mags. The adapter can be found on amazon and the mags are everywhere.

Redi mag makes the adapter you guys are talking about. I have one with a cmmg upper and it works flawlessly. I also have a 15-22 rifle. I love them both and yes the upper combo cost me a little but it was worth every penny I spent. Me and my son shoot these together and the 15-22 is a tad lighter and shorter which is perfect for him. I shoot the cmmg because I prefer the actual size like the AR 15. Plus there is a lot more stuff out there for mine should I decide to change things.
