I stopped reading a some point because I realized that this was a waste of my time. Everyone seems to want some kind of guarantee that whatever platform they invested in won't fail them a some critical moment.

Try to buy the best you can and move on. Isn't this why you carry a secondary.

Yes, Wes C Addle has a point.

These threads invariably degrade into a lot of stupid chest-thumping and fantasizing about SHTF scenarios based on the premise that only one gun can possibly meet the requirements of the true operator. In fact, most of the people around here probably have more than one rifle, and indeed there are no doubt many, such as myself, who collect all kids of rifles, AKs, Saigas, SKSes, ARs of every caliber and stripe, just because.

It's nice to understand the pros and cons of various rifle designs and brands (and the OP has performed a valuable service by promulgating real world hard data), but to argue over them as if any of us can only choose one is -- not to put too fine a point on it -- really lame.

Personally, I have a number of Franken-rifles, including 10/22s, on which I have spent well over $1,000 and in some cases closer to $2,000. I own two SCARs and an ACR. I even have a M1941 Johnson. But I also love being able to buy $50 stripped lowers and $400 carbine kits from PSA. Who doesn't?

Unfortunately there is always someone who has to start tread craping, as I previously stated, my intent never to start a AK vs AR or any other rifle debate.
I wanted to simply present facts about the durability of the AK as recorded from HENDERSON DEFENSE - real range time use. Answers to the questions folks have about barrel life, bolt life ect. Some of us happen to big time AK builders, shooters and collectors more so than others. Bottom line any rifle will get the job done.
