Could that be what they were trying to do? If the ban had gone through, it would have driven the price of all .223/5.56 up, and possibly even spilled over into other cartridges. M855 is/was a cheap, plentiful round to shoot for plinking, practice, and training. With that gone, something would have to fill that gap and demand would increase, therefore prices would as well.

It seems that the fault is solely with whoever was so shortsighted that they didn't keep a large enough stock for defending chickens and/or family members.
I don't flip but I also don't see the big deal. Why aren't the people who chose not to buy anything during times of plenty being called out for their lack of personal responsibility? Seems like inflated panic prices are the cost of not being prepared. It's not like this was the first big ammo panic.sigpicComment

Honestly, this is one of the many reasons I started reloading. Albeit the components market isn't immune to ebbs and flows of supply and demand, panics, and just the market in general, it doesn't seem to be as terribad as the ammunition market. I can still go get plenty of powder, primers, bullets, brass, etc for the same price as before the M855 panic...I just can't buy SS109 bullets for dirt cheap anymore.Comment

Or allow lawsuits and special taxes on gun makers so they have to pass cost down to us. That's why we need to keep on top of these things and oppose them anytime they try to sneak them through.NRA-ILA Lawmaker Contact Tool

I certainly wouldn't put it past them. But I imagine when they want to do it, it will be through special taxes and fees. Some kind of "dangerous item" tax and a background check card you need to pay to renew every year. Maybe .5 cent a round tax that will not affect joe shmoe casual shooter but really hurt bulk buyers. Make it seem minor to get it through congress or under the radar in a bureau, then put the screws to all of us. I've heard antis demand that gun owners have liability insurance for any damages their guns might cause.

I guess I just feel that the people getting "screwed" had just as much a chance to buy cheap as anyone else before the panic. The flippers just seem to be taking advantage of their laziness. Maybe they will learn their lesson before then next panic.NRA-ILA Lawmaker Contact Tool

Maybe some of them will, but the so called panic on 22 rimfire has been going since 1/2013, I know a couple young people that just this year turned the legal age to purchase ammo. Their jobs screw them from being able to buy the cheap stuff. I wouldn't call them lazy.sigpicComment
