The Encore would do very well. A 22" barrel of medium to lighter weight would be short and light, much better as compared to a bolt action with a similar barrel length/profile. I have an Encore in 260 and a Ruger 77V in 6.5 Creedmoor and each is "3 shots, one hole". I think the 260 is a few more FPS faster, but neither is exactly a barn burner nor overly popular.

Ruger No 1 in 270 Win. It will shoot 3 shot groups into an inch with the 130 grain TSX handloads.

I have a tc encore and have never had a problem with it. As others have said it will drive 3 shots into one hole with the right setup. Mine is a bit on the heavy side but that helps reduce the felt recoil. Although not too popular on the west coast from what I understand they are very popular on the east coast.

My most accurate rifle is a single shot. You wouldn't believe how much hyper-focus you put into placing your shot when you know dep down inside, you have nothing else to back it up. That you can't just jack another cartridge in there and have at it. That your session isn't about to end in 4 more shots....three.... two.....

Fatigue is less an issue too. You put everything into that one shot you are about to take, and get a "rest" as you set up again for the next round. Can you do that with a repeater, including a semi automatic? sure. But psychologically, it's less likely to happen. You're already thinking about the next round before firing the one currently in the chamber.

It changes the dynamics of your range day. And IMO, for the better.

For those that "don't get it" but are just a smidge curious, you can always buy just one. And since it's just one, you can make sure it's a good one. a REALLY good one. in your favorite cartridge (up to and including no cartridge at all!). itch scratched, and you never know what might grow on you. Even if you never buy another.

Agree 100% with all you said, so how does the Ruger No1 in .260 - 6.5 Creedmore / Swede stack up to the others as a Medium Game Rifle? Looking for less overall length / weight. Probably match up with a Z3 scope light quality glass.

I have learned, that if I want something light weight, best thing is to go buy an AR-15.

I don't look for single shots for weight reduction anymore.

                    They are ridiculously short though

A range thought this was "legal" because it's a pistol cartridge. I said nothing at the time, but if I had understood the meaning behind their words at the time I would have said it was legal anytime because the barrel is over 16 inches long.

I have two TC Contender receivers and about 7 barrels of different calibers. My hunting barrels are 44 Mag, 7-30 Waters and 45-70. I have a 14" and 21" bull barrels in 223 Rem combined with the 22lr barrel they are a hoot to shoot in a PDog town. Back when I hunted when I needed a light gun it was the TC Contender I'm packing. Even when I was in Maine a fast single shot was all I need. I packed a 10mm long slide in case a black bear or yotes decide to mess with me.
