    I have a Ruger #3 45-70 and 45-70 Handi Rifle I really like.

I also have 22 Hornet & 223 Handi Rifles, they are tack drivers, really like them too.

Love the looks of the Ruger 1, love my Pedersoli Sharps but she's weighs out like a crew served weapon.
I have a few Ruger No1 rifles, also quite a few Encore and Contender rifle barrels. The Ruger No1 is a great looking rifle, but it can be a PITA to get shooting well, although many of them do from the start. There are all sorts of modifocations suggested, mostly focusing on the forend, to get it to shoot. I bought a No 1 V in 220 Swift, shot OK but wandered. Free floated the forend & all is well. I reload, am just an OK shot - I'd prefer to not also have to wonder if the rifle I shoot has an issue. That's a question mark for me with the No 1.

The various Encore and Contender rifle barrels I have all shoot well, whether made by a higher end custom maker, plain old factory or Bergara barrels. Very consistent, no surprises. Additional barrels cost anywhere from $175.00 to $400.00, there are about 80 calibers to pick from.

I've a Winchester 1885 in 7 WSM that is exceptionally accurate. Unlike the Ruger the forend is free floated, very nicely made rifle.

For a single shot that's a little different, you can still find the older T/C "TCR 83". It breaks down like a double barrel shotgun, no tools required. No one makes barrels for them now, but without much effort I've found 22 PPC, 223, 257 Weatherby, 7 Rem Mag & 30.06 and they cost about $175.00 or less. The TCR has a great set trigger, mounting a scope is easy.

Luxus also makes a single shot. I've handled but haven't bought one, a bit pricey and although nice I'm not certain it's worth the money.

          Manufacturing scale.

If you are only making 10,000 units of something, your cost per item will likely be 2x the cost per unit compared to if you were making 100,000 units of that same item.
If you are only making 1000 units of something, your cost per item will likely be 5x the cost per unit compared to if you were making 100,000 units of that same item.

I have a handful of Handi's also. If you play around with them, they are shooters and very handy to carry while hunting. -g

In 1987 I took my first deer with a single shot LH TC Renegade that I had just built from a kit. I've been shooting Single shot rifles since I got my first Ithaca 49 back in 1978. I have single shot rifles that are frontstuffers, bolt actions, lever actions, hinged action, etc. They are chambered in everything from .22lr to 50BMG to .54 cal. I'm not sure what the question is though.

My favorite is a custom T/C Encore that I shoot and hunt with and when it all boils down I would grab it over all others I own for just about anything or any reason.

I have a BAT Model M action with a regular 308 and mag bolt.

Not only is it a beautiful piece of art, it's also beefy and for my intended purpose, F-Class, it is perfect.

I was leaning toward a Ruger 1 in .260 or 6.5 Creedmoor but having second thoughts after researching.

Was looking for a light weight shorter rifle.

Ya .260Rem and 6.5 Creedmore are to much for the Contender Frame so you would have to go up to a Encore Frame. Then your lightest weight would be around 7lbs.

I have my Sharps 45/70 Long Range Express with a 30" barrel love to shoot it. it cost me a lot more than I'm used to paying for a rifle but I always wanted a Sharps so buying it was worth it.
