I don't know anything about chemistry and didn't know what Godwin Law was either. I looked it up and I don't see how it fits in with Grunt. He wasn't the first to bring up Germans and I didn't see where he brought up Nazis. The Germans did get their butts kicked twice with technology inferior to theirs though.

The point you're making has already been stated by several others on this thread and I doubt any one would disagree.

It's kinda like a thread posing the question, "What is 2+2?" And then you jump to page 6 and say "4!"

OP: my vote is keep it simple. .308 is plentiful, cheap, and can do what you ask. Just what you stated in your original question. Also, down the road, you can rebarrel it if you do stay in the game and start reloading.

If your black cat is American, then it makes perfect sense that the Hitler cat in my meme prolly drank some poison before having to up against that BAMF! No amount of German scopes or technology could've helped him. His carcass now resides in your signature as a war trophy.

For the good stuff, Europe is where it's at...except for Glocks, ewww. And, of course it would be down right embarrassing to not have a good old American made 1911, not a Filipino knock-off. Sorry folks, the truth hurts.

I shot 8 rounds out of a $1,500 Kimber 1911 a few days ago. Dam it was sweet! Trigger felt just right, recoil was like a 9mm (very heavy spring in it), and one ragged hole at 7 yards on a dirty bird.

I let the guy next to me who owned it shoot a magazine each out of my Beretta and Glock. Unfortunately for him and his buddy, they were all over the paper with all the pistols. Their jaws literally dropped when they saw my group and I'm thinking, "It's only 7 freakin' yards, shouldn't be that hard with .45 bullet holes." I tried giving his buddy some shooting tips and he cut me off saying,"I'm concentrating on....blah blah blah." Alright, whatever dude, thanks for trading rounds with me and good luck hitting something if you ever need to.

Personally, I don't own a .45 and I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything. I prefer higher capacity and quicker follow up shots in a defensive situation, since most rounds will miss anyway. This is also why I don't own or have any interest really, in revolvers, even though many revolvers are tack drivers.

My next pistol will be a 10mm Auto as a backwoods sidearm, unless for some reason, I convince myself to get my first revolver in .44 magnum.

The reason I have a Glock 17 is because a co-worker of mine needed to get rid of it and was letting it go for $200. I jumped on it, dropped in a 4.5" Stainless Storm Lake barrel, swapped in a 3.5 lb trigger bar, laid on some grip tape, and did the $0.25 trigger job by polishing with Flitz.

The reason I have a Beretta 92F (prolly from the '80s) is because my wife bought one at a Pawn shop in order to practice on for pistol qualification. I changed out the hammer spring for a lighter one, had Jim Hoag put on an adjustable rear sight, and I added some other part I can't remember to reduce trigger creep. It shoots just good as my Glock, MAYBE even better at 100 yards due to the 5" barrel.

Here's what my Glock can do offhand at 8yds, no rest. There's no comparison between stock combat pistols vs combat pistols after a few modifications.

Pretty much man, practically an open forum at this point.

Everyone's entitiled to their preferences. Personally, I try to make something do what I want it to do, as inexpensively as I can. If it fails short of that, then I spend more to upgrade. I think one of the most valuable things we get from these threads is to make a more informed decision on when it is better to customize something cheap, or just start off at the top tier.

Anyway, I'm sure the OP got the info he wanted and split lol.
