Open land to shoot long range?

All of these field offices kind of make up their own rules. Tumey and Panoche are under the Hollister office.I saw a more sturdy "this is not allowed" message somewhere on the BLM site earlier in the week, but on this page it says "please only shoot paper targets": http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/fo/palms...formation.html
So unless you find something on there or call them and they say no steel it's not a problem. I did a quick poke around all I found was the usual mid October lifting of fire restrictions. We should be under those rules until mid April.

That's true, but it will be easier to run a ladder test on a target carrier than out in the desert. I'm a member and I'm happy to take guests if they introduce themselves and I get an idea of their experience/mentality.weg: That device is obsolete now. They replaced it with wizards.
frank: Wait a minute. There are more than one wizard? Is [are?] the wizard calibrated?Comment

Nope Montana
You offering ? Heh...I have a Kubota tractor and a Polaris 800 ATV, chainsaws, brush hogs, plows and an old Cat 900 dozer, I run them allDo you work your land?
It isn't free, it isn't easy, but it is the good life.I'd love to one day have a set up like yours.
There's a 5 acre garden, some cattle, some hogs, geese, chickens, 2 wild turkeys I'm trying to get to breed, and assorted dogs that seem to gravitate to the place.
I'm on a well and have propane tanks for gas.
I'm working on a few windmills and some solar panels now.
Work, you guys just don't know what that is

I was out at Panoche last weekend shooting steel out to 900 yards and no ranger came up to us and told us to stop.
I think the concern is not shooting at stuff that leaves debris, and I can't think of nothing better than shooting at AR500 steel

Anyone know of any BLM land to do 1K+ north of San Francisco? Any friendly groups get together to shoot will be great. The wise man said just find your place

My bachelor party was at the Cow Mountain BLM land near Ukiah north of Napa off 101, there was a "bring-your-own-target" range up in the hills by the campgrounds, had some steel out at 400 yards I tagged a few times. I remember thinking you could probably find some spots on the ridge roads that could take you out to 1k. This was back in 2003, might have changed since then.sigpic

We shoot out to 2300 yards on north cow mountain near the water tank. The terrain up there is much better suited to 1000 yards or less do to checking of the targets taking 45 minutes in each direction in heavy brush.
Shooting from road to road is almost impossible and night shooting is highly frowned upon now.
If you are okay with leaving your targets up there its one trip per day so tolerable. I left a shooting bench up there over the winter for several years and each spring it had rattle snakes living under it so a rake is almost mandatory.
If you can drive to the north side of indian valley reservoir and have a 4 wheel drive truck or quad you can easily go 3000 yards.
This spring before it gets hot we will be holding some test matches up that way at 2000 yards and you are welcome to give it a try.
>2900 fps velocity and high BC bullets plus tons of elevation are almost a must.
Were are you located as we have 1200 yards near Petaluma.Lynn Dragoman, Jr.

I have my own shooting area.
Took this pic a month ago or so before the cold really reared it's head.
This is my road, not a county road or whatever, so I have my own street name that I blocked from ya's
you just don't need that info for any reason I can think of.
My house is down there on the right and my shop is behind it.
The shop measures 240' long, 56' wide, and 24' tall.
That should give you a idea of the area size here.
I can sit on my front porch with a beer and rifle and shoot right at 460 yards straight across the field.
I can shoot to the right up to about 1200 yards.
And to the left where this view is from I can get just a tad over 2300 yards.
I think you guys might understand how I can actually feel free.
No one person to bother me unless I invite them to.
Where so you live roughly. I want to move there!Comment
