Rifle scope for long range shooting

Of the scopes you have listed the Nightforce wins hands down. If money is not a problem the March line of scopes sit on the worlds most accurate rifles.
When Lou Murdica brought the first March scopes into the US I looked through his fixed 40 power scope at 600 yards and could easily see 6mm bullet holes in a NBRSA target. My guns were using Nightforce 12-42's and I couldn't see the holes. If your shooting in competition were score counts as much as group it is a huge advantage to be able to see your bullet holes while the line is hot. I shoot benchrest not tactical so your needs might be different depending on what you are shooting.
I have four Nightforce NXS scopes and six Benchrest models and the only difference is the benchrest models are heavier by a couple ounces and all have 1/8 minute clicks.
The NXS models have 1/4 MOA clicks and you can get 10 or 20 MOA per revolution of the turret and some have the zero stop feature. I hunt with a 6mm-06 and the 20 moa per revolution means I can sight dead on at 200 yards
and with one turn of the turret reach out to 1000 yards.
On the March scopes I own three and they are all set up for longrange benchrest shooting. The crosshairs are offset so you can view your windflags and see the target at the same time. The dot is also extremely small compared to most other scopes which helps you hold a tighter point of aim. If your dot is covering up most of your target it is much harder to hold the same each shot even if you are bracketing your target.
I don't have a March Tactical scope but if I shot tactical it would be my first choice based on what I have seen with there benchrest line-up.
On scopes it is always best to look through them for yourself. I have picked up some highly touted scopes and wouldn't put one on a BB gun. The European scopes have good glass but they are so for over priced for what you get they are not worth having in my opinion. You also need to make sure the brochure matches the scope as much gets lost in the translation.
Henry "The Bullet God" Childs bought one of the early Ior Valdada scopes and it had 1/6 MOA clicks in it not 1/8 as advertised. They also tend to have uncommon reticle choices making them one off scopes. A crosshair with a post might be great for hunting Roe deer in the moonlight in Germany but it isn't worth a can of beans for target shooting.Lynn Dragoman, Jr.

I just shot out to 550 yards a few days ago with a Nikon p223 on my 300blk. 29" drop. Man that was fun. Worked for me...all depends on what you need.Originally posted by GottmitunsIt's not protecting the rights of the 1%, it's IMPOSING new laws because of the 1%.Comment

Budget Info On Scope Purchase
Oops. Sorry guys. Many have pointed out that I should have mentioned how much I had to spend. Please mark the omission down to rookie error. I plan to up to $2400 although lower is better of course, as long as I get good quality.Comment

I have NXSes on my 700 in .308 and two of my 50BMGs. You really can't go wrong with a NXS. My preference is moa/moa. I leave the milrads to those who aren't looking for as fine of adjustments.
If I was going to get dedicated 600-1000 yard glass, I would consider going with a NF BR scope for 1/4moa clicks. But, you sacrifice overall adjustment for finer adjustments. My next dedicated 1000 yard scope will probably be a 12-42x NF BR. If you're just going to shoot off a bipod and rear bag, mil/mil or moa/moa will do fine.NRA Certified Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun and Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor

i am going to have to recommend the Bushnell Tactical Elite DMR 3.5-21x50. i just picked one up for $1100 OTD. i think it is enough scope to get the job done and at an attractive price. I am done dropping $2K-$3K on a scope when there are scopes out there that can get that same job done at half the price. YMMV.Comment
