I've been checking out rifle scopes for moderate distance shooting (600 yrds). Some of the scopes I'm considering are the Night Force NXS 5-22x, The Burris XTRII 4-20x, or the Bushnell Tactical Elite 4-24X. I'll be mounting it on a Remington 700P. Any suggestions anyone?

Nightforce NXS 5X22X56 and you are set. I have the NP-R2 reticle on both of my 50BMG rifles. So people like the NP-R1 better. Reticle choices are up to you.A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

For just 600 yards, a lot will work. Just get the features you need.
For long range, you need:
1) Occular clarity (good glass and large tube)
2) As much elevation adjustment as possible
3) Large turret knobs, 10 Mil/rev or more
4) A good zoom rangeComment

SWFA 10x42 HD is more than enough for 600yrds. Even their SS 10x would do pretty well. I use them to go twice that far.Comment

Nightforce are good. The bushnell elite 3.5x21 is good as well.
if you want the buy once cry once route, go:
S&B 5-25x
Nightforce Beast
Vortex Razor Gen II
US Optics 5-25x
Kahles Optics 6-24x
Here is a good test report: http://precisionrifleblog.com/2014/0...sults-summary/
Me and my budget, I'll probably go Vortex Razor Gen II
In the $1K range, I would probably go Bushnell Elite 3.5x21x. You should be able to get it around $1K. Don't pay anymore over $1.1KComment

I like the SWFA's, I have two different models. I would go to mil/mil, versus mil/moa, as I find the math faster and easier (my second is the mil/mil).sigpic Waterborne!

This is the best bang for the buck scope that money can buy.
It has real German Schott glass, the best of the best and is what Schmidt and Bender, and Hensoldt use on their $4000+ dollar scopes.
It is also built like a tank, nobody out there that has used one will ever say a Valdada isn't built as strong as anything made.
It isn't made in China.
It isn't made in the Philipines.
It isn't made in Pakistan by real Pakiwanni's.
It isn't made in Taiwan by taiwanistanni's.
(did I cover all the other makers in this thread there ?)Comment

Nah, you didn't get Japanese stuff, which is the most workable for lower end optics. It has real German Schott glass, the best of the best and is what Schmidt and Bender, and Hensoldt use on their $4000+ dollar scopes.

For the glass, I'd stick with German makers:
-S&B
-Zeiss
-Schott
-Steiner
with the exception of one Austrian company,
-Swarovski
Then, you need to get a scope that is well-constructed. Getting high quality glass doesn't mean beans unless you have the craftsmanship to go along with it.
China & Filipino, well, just get a good warranty; you'll need it.Comment

I have a bushnell tac elite 3.5-21 mil/mil and a vortex viper pst 6-24 mil/mil.
The bush is around $1,200. The vortex around $900?
Either will suit you very well to 600+ yards.
The bushnell is nicer, and the lower power setting is nice for offhand shots... but they both get the job done.Comment

If I were looking for a new scope right now, it would be a no brainer.
1. The Vortex Razors that are being discontinued by $600. The only issue is that you have a 35mm tube, so you will need to pay more for a small selection of rings/mount. That's the best deal going at ~$1,350
2. Step up to a nice scope that is also being sold at a great price ($500-600 off). It's a fantastic value at $2,350.
