I shoot to 700 yards at SLOSA with a leupold VariX-II 3x9-40 that I had Leupold put a CDS dial on. The price is low, the clarity is excellent and it's great for dinging steels, if that's your goal.

As Randall said, asking "which scope should I buy?" without mentioned a budget just got you suggestions costing from $300 to $4,000._____________________________________________

That's always how equipment recommendation threads go.
The OP posts an incomplete or unqualified question.
A whole bunch of people jump in with recommendations made on the basis of what they like.
The old pros ask for more information to qualify the question.
More people argue that their unqualified answer is correct.
The OP comes back and qualifies his question.
The old pros give good recommendations.
The unqualified answer people come back and argue to try and support their unqualified answers.

And now that the prophecy is completed, we can start taking bets on whether the OP comes back to provide more details and receive a better answer, or pulled out his credit card and placed an order after reading the first 5 replies with a make and model listed. Perhaps even the wildcard, ignoring everything and going with whatever he planned on buying in the first place?Comment

You upset the order of the universe by completing the prophecy before it was time...And now that the prophecy is completed, we can start taking bets on whether the OP comes back to provide more details and receive a better answer, or pulled out his credit card and placed an order after reading the first 5 replies with a make and model listed. I'm going with the wildcard.Randall Rausch

Actually, my threads usually go a bit different. The old pros desert after the unqualified answer people come in and ask for more information that is totally unrelated to the question at hand. I get blasted for not answering the unrelated queries and shot down for being unhelpful to the unqualified people demanding they solve my problem. That's always how equipment recommendation threads go.

Sometimes, godwins law is still invoked?Comment

Nope, he used a lower case "n", which is a colloquialism that doesn't directly reference the Nazi Party, so Godwin has not been invoked. But, as a side note, folks are really starting to sound like Hitler with their authoritarian views.Comment

That's subpar for what I'd consider long range shooting; it's got no elevation range. For what I consider long range shooting, I think the Hensoldt ZF 3.5-26x56 is the best game in town. You won't beat the glass clarity or adjustment range. 36.5 Mil adjustment with a 36mm tube. It has a nice simple reticle without a ton of junk. The Krauts even made a nice mount for it that has an adjustable 0-70MOA cant. It would be the best in every way if it came with CCW turrets. Otherwise, if 26 Mil of adjustment can cut it, the S&B 3-27x56 PMII is the best you'll find. That really isn't an opinion, it's a fact. It's just that the $6,000-$7,000 price tag turns folks off to what is the best. Folks can fantasize all day that a Vortex or NF is as good, but it isn't. That said, for these very high end optics, they are really not necessary for 99.9% of shooting. The difference will, however, become apparent at extreme ranges.Comment
