Thoughts on a 223 bolt gun

I got a itch and Im trying to scratch it! I want a Tac driver bolt gun. This will be a bench gun only. For long range. Something with a bull barrel and nice factory trigger and nice stock. Any ideas?
BTW I love my .308 Tika and the action on that gun. Its so smooooth! Would love to have something like that. But Tika doesnt seem to have the aftermarket support.

Not all rifles need aftermarket support. Unless you just like tinkering.

Tikka T3 Lite in 223.... Does dime size groups at 100 yards!

What do you mean by "long range"? 200 yards? 500? 1K?

I'm thinking 500. I just want more of a challenge then the typical. I have a 308 Tikka now but it's more of a hunting brush gun.

I do like to tinker with stuff, a lot! Lol. I want a drop mag, brake, adjustable stock ect. I know a lot of you are thinking 223 why? Because I just do, it's cheaper to shoot and there's more of a challenge.

I have the same gun in .308. It's amazing. I just want the bells and whistles. Bull barrel for sure!

Tikka Sporter in .223 with a 1:8" twist 24" barrel. Pretty much anything you may want in a turn-key setup.

500 will be easy and longer is possible.

This 20" is not mine, but I want one to match my M595.

IMO, a .223 will disappoint you for "long range" shooting if your long range definition is 500 yards. You will be limited to the heavier grain bullets, expensive match ammo, and you will be a victim to the wind at that range.

IMO, go with a Savage or Ruger in 6.5 creedmoor. Good match ammo, easy to reload, higher BC bullet choices, and the round is GTG for 1000 yard shooting.

If you really want to go .223, then I would probably get the 700 police model. Good, heavy barrel, and ready for longer range shooting.

Savage model 12 f/tr 223 ,good out to 1k with hand loads. Have won alot of 600 yard matches with it.But let all the experts here steer you somewhere else if you want other cal then 223 as you stated in post

The rem 700 police model is a 9 twist, the savage model 12 f/tr is a 7.7 twist. Want to hand load and shoot long range in a 223 go with a savage model 12 f/tr.

I shoot an AR with a 24" 1:8 twist barrel out to 800 all the bloody time, sometimes I'll even go to 1k.
                              It will get there.
It works just fine with 77's, 80's, and 90's.
80 Amax is my go to bullet and I honestly load them to be a bit slow (2700'ish fps).
I can easily keep all shots, even flyers, on a paper plate at 800.
