Exactly. "Bucking the wind" requires increased velocity which is the result of more powder. Rarely do the lines of high performance and economy intersect.

As long as you realize that some of these cartridges have a competitive barrel life of 1,000 to 1,500 rounds (and sometimes less) then run a 6.5x284 or a 7mm Remington Magnum. Just don't kid yourself and think it's going to have a barrel life as long as your Sears Roebuck .22 Long Rifle.

Plus, I have a few thousand weight sorted 140gr 6.5mm bullets, so entering in the 7mm and finding 180's would be an additional investment. Plus Rl17 and H4831 for Shehane are right in between of the types of powder I do stock.

If you dont want to do a little extra brass prep you should probably just stick with another 6.5x55 or 6.5x55AI. Hotrods require more attention vs a daily driver. Just the way life works. Nothing really wrong with either it just depends on what you really want.

The 6.5X55 is about a perfect match of bore diameter and case capacity.

6.5-06 AI, you do not need to anneal I have shot thousands of Ackley rounds in various calibers and never even thought about annealing them I do 6-8 loadings and then toss them regardless. From 25-06 brass it's one step sizing then fireform to your chamber, 270 brass can do the same but you'll need to trim a bit once.

I understand paying attention to cost a bit, I picked up a target rifle in 378 Weatherby. But if the 26 fills the bill, what's a few $$$ up front for brass? I'd also wonder if the 26 can be made from other brass.

im going to be running a .317 neck and .188 free bore on my 284 shehane. it will be a no neck turn and will be using .311 & .312 bushing whidden dies.

im now waiting on 180gr pills to get into production finally and start shipping. from what i hear, they should start soon.

Since the thread has been bumped, I'll update it.
I went with 6.5x55 Ackley improved with a custom action and 1.2" dia to 1" dia muzzle Bartlein 31" 1:8.5 twist 5R blank to be turned into a 30" barrel using a PTG floating 6.5x55 Ackley reamer I bought by Randall.

Went with another PST 6-24 FFP in MOA this time. Looking to get it cerakoted silver.
Got a Timney 510
Going to sit in another wood/laminate with aluminum block bedding to pair well with my other 6.5 swede.

Not sure why you're bumping this thread since a Grendal isn't going to come near 3000fps with the 140's, but to answer one of your questions - 1:8 twist is what you need at your velocities.
