    SPS tactical build (pics)

    Updated pics in post #15

    Range report in post 25

So, I picked up an SPS tactical and over the past 6 weeks i've been getting parts together for this build.

Heading to the gunsmith tomorrow to have the barrel threaded/brake blended, bolt knob installed and stock inletted for DBM. I'll update some pics tomorrow evening when I get it all put together and of course a range report to follow.

Down the line I plan on re-barreling and geting the action done, not decided on the caliber yet, but in the meantime im just going to shoot the crap out of it.

    Parts List.

    Rem700 SPS tactical (.308)
    Vortex PST (FFP 4-16 MRAD)
    McMillan A5 in McMillan camo
    PTG stealth DBM (M5)
    NF 20moa base
    Leupold MK4 rings
    Timney 517
    Badger Thruster brake
    Badger mini knob
    Harris-s
    Triad modular pack (multicam)

Damn! I did nearly the same thing 4 years ago with the exception of the first rate stock and DBM which I wanted so badly.

Looks like a great package to get you into some practical precision fun.

For the price and quality, pacific tool & gauge bottom metal is awesome. Standard M5 footprint, takes AI mags, great quality and is only 100 bucks. Spending 400 on a badger just didnt seem logical when there are other offerings like PTG out there. Im really impressed with it.

Haha, the factory stock on these might as well just be packaging they come shipped in. The trigger also leaves a lot to be desired. Other than that, it should be a good little shooter.

Way to go... Back in 2008 I bought a Remington 700 SPS and threw everything away but the receiver housing. Everything else is aftermarket and the receiver has been trued by Krieger. It's a tack driver now.

Thats what I plan on doing eventually. I plan on shooting this for a while and having some fun with it until I decide my wants/needs out of a new barrel and possibly changing calibers. (6.5 creed or .260)

Ive been shooting bolt guns for hunting my whole life, but this is my first precision bolt gun. I have a lot to learn and practice when it comes to long range.

                  Nice remmy!

Please report back on the A5 stock. I hate the hogue but haven't decided what stock to get since they're all very expensive or need extra work (bedding and bottom metal).

Will do, I bought this one used (although its spotless and looks like its never even had an action in it.)

Would have liked to go with an adjustable version but given McMillan lead times, and the price I picked this one up for, I couldnt pass it up. Seems to be awesome quality, which is to be expected. After I get some trigger time behind it this week i'll be sure to post updates.

Theres a few places that have some in stock depending on what you want. Good luck getting one this year if you order direct though. Lol.

Big thanks to Randall (ar15barrels) for doing the work, had a good time watching all the machine work and asking questions. Wouldnt hesitate to go back.

A few pics getting the brake install/blend, and the bolt knob install.

All put together, came out pretty nice. Now I need to head to the range
