The other thing I can think of is part of the primer from that last round you fired is stuck up in the action.

What was the one round you fired? Maybe a piece of the neck broke off in chamber?

Pull the bolt out and look for any scratches or marks on it.

I was able to fire one of the reloads, when we inspected the casing it looked to be totally normal. The accuracy of the shot was also spot on at 100 yards.

I guess I just need to get Savage on the horn and see what they think. Pretty bummed about my new rifle to say the least.

This is one of the reasons you should keep your brass.

have you fired this rifle before?

you said you were able to shoot one round today, was there problems with that one as well?

I had the same problem with my savage 10ba. It wouldn't chamber reloads and yet they did chamber and fire out of my Ruger American 308. I figured the savage had tighter clearances. Factory loads chamber okay. I bought some snap caps in 308 to test them at home.

its possible that the neck thickness different (thicker)on the LC brass (I have never used it) & I would be surprised if the wolf wasn't.... do you have a micrometer?

Steel-cased Wolf or not, it should chamber without using force.

Call Savage in the morning. Don't mention the handloads just tell them it won't readily chamber a factory round. They will take care of you.

Needless to say, don't try firing it again.

I had an AR barrel with same issue made by Noveske. It turned out the when they polished the barrel alot of lapping coupound dried up and rounds were getting stuck in the chamber and damaging the rounds too. I would try cleaning your barrel very well then give it a try. If that doesnt cure it then send it back.

At the range we even tried a spent casing and still would not chamber all the way.

Spent cases from other guns not fitting would not normally be an issue but in your example all rounds have the same problem.

In general when a round stops what appears to be 1/4 inch short the bullet is seated way long for the throat.
                            The neck is too thick.
Or the base of the case isn't sized enough.

In your example I would take a single round and remove the bullet as I posted earlier. This will eliminate the long seated bullet or fat bullet from the equation.

Next look at the web area of that new unfired case and see if the area is all burnished from a tight fit.

If not look at the neck for the same problem.

I would say someone set the headspace wrong by screwing the barrel down too much but 1/4 inch short is quite a bit so the chamber is probably very tight.

Talked to savage and they think that sending it in is the best bet. Bad news is that it will take 6-8 weeks to get it back. Pretty big bummer but I guess it's good that they stand behind their products. At least they cover all the shipping.
