Savage 10 Problems - Manufacturer Defect?

Have a 1 month old Savage 10 20" Heavy Barrel. Been trying to shoot lake city reloads as well as Wolf Ammo and having some major problems. The bolt of the rifle works just fine with no ammo in in, but when I put a cartridge in and try to move the bolt forward it literally stops about 1/4 of an inch before the most forward spot. This doesn't allow me to fully load the round and lower the bolt handle into place. When forced forward and then down, the bolt actually is causing the bullet casing to be separated and powder spills form the casing, while forcing the bullet to be wedged in the barrel. The result is a big mess and having to use a rod down the barrel to remove the situation.

Obviously something is wrong here. I have tried two different rounds and am wondering if its a problem with the bullets, since it cycles fine without a bullet in the chamber or is this a manufacturer's defect with my rifle?

What course of action should I take? I asked the guys at my local gun club and they suggested trying some high end ammo to see if that was the case, but to me seems like a savage should be eating almost anything and not being this picky.

Please help me out, not sure where to take it from here.

yeah other than making sure you are using the right ammo, seems like either the throat is too short on your rifle or it just wasn't chamber reamed to the right depth(headspaced).

what caliber is your gun, and what caliber is the ammo you are putting in it?
a factory gun shouldn't be having any of those sorts of issues, that's more of an issue hand loaders run into when they seat the bullets too long, nothing that should come from a factory gun and factory ammo.

If it is the right caliber ammo and gun, send it back to savage.

          This ^^^

Post a picture of the side of the receiver showing the cartridge designation, and picture of the box of ammo you are using.

agree with others about ammo - post pictures of side of barrel, ammo used, head stamp...

And the other rounds I was using were brass reloads from Lake City. Unfort I didn't save the spent casing form the one round that actually fired today.

make sure the wolf does not fit in as well, i know sometimes rounds can get confused, i wouldn't trust the reloaded ammo and would check the cartridge overall length, should be about 2.8" with some tolerance but not much bigger. the reloads sound like they can be suspect.

Take a pair of pliers and pull one bullet from the factory ammo. Now dump out the powder and chamber the round.
Does it chamber okay without the bullet?
Next point the rifle in a safe direction and fire the round without a bullet or powder..
Did the primer ignite okay or was it a dud?
Can you measure a loaded round from the casehead to the tip of the bullet and give me a number?

At the range we even tried a spent casing and still would not chamber all the way.
