Just jailed My first bolt action

Just jailed a Remmy 700 sps tactical. 20 inch 1-10 twist

I originally wanted the aad-sd however for the price I couldn't pass it up and didn't think 200 was worth threading, I can always get it barrel threaded or wait till I re-barrel the thing.

New to bolt actions, wanted one for a year and shot a few rounds threw a 700 adl.

Any suggestions on gear or the need to have stuff?

I got 200 rounds of 308 coming, however have not picked out the scope, rings or base yet.

This will primarily be a plinker that can reach out and touch when I want to.

Congrats on the purchase. Now we play the waiting game.

Look at Badger Ordinance for rings and mounts. They are rock solid. Do you have a budget in mind for optics?

On a basic budget looking at under 500 for glass. this is just a range toy so nothing to extreme. Just something that will let me go out to 500-600 yards is good.

Like vortex optics as I have one mounted to one of my Ar's and have been impressed. But whatever the hive recommends will be taken into consideration.

I usually run Leupold optics on my rifles. I would recommend the Mark 4 but that is above your budget. If you already have some Vortex optics on one of your other rifles and you are pleased, follow suit and buy another one. I would recommend running at least a 10 power scope. Maybe more in the 14-16 power range if you want to start shooting longer ranges.

You will love the sps tactical, I've had one for a few years. If you're shooting 300 yards and under the factory hogue stick should be fine, but if you want better accuracy I would recommend a new stock. You can get a B&C for a reasonable cost.

Geez, Remington 700s in .308 are becoming a new AR-15. It seems like a day never goes by without a post by a new purchaser. Get a new trigger and for the stock, go no less than an AICS so you can set yourself apart from the rest of the rifles at the range.

That price range the Vortex is a great choice.

X2 on the stock. Replace that soon.

When people embrace modding thier rifle in order to "set themselves apart" from others at the range, then the 700 .308 really will be like the AR.

Buy what works for you and allows for your own best possible groups at range. Going through $1100 in good ammo is going to make your shooting a lot more impressive than the newbie with a large credit card.

Check out the swfa sample list. They usually have some great deals on used/ opened optics.
Most people will agree that the overmold stock is junk, but you should see how it shoots off a bipod before you replace it. I went with a manners.

Lol it's funny because everyone puts an AICS on their 700. I wanted to stand out at the range, so I bought a real AI AW. Then I realized no one believed me that it was real!

700s have always been cool. People are just starting to realize it now. That's all. Haha

Maybe if you get Accuracy International to certify its authentucity you'll podium at your next competition.

like the guy who imported an actual Integra Type R from Japan to take to car shows and ended up having to bring the import documentation because the judges didn't believe it was actually from the JDM.....

congrats on the new piece. You will want a 20 moa scope base and low to med rings depending on the scope. Please don't cheap out on the glass. You need to see it to shot it..
