Give me a couple weeks and I'll have my "new" 700 along with the one I'm selling. after that, we can meet up at Angeles and shoot the little red pig all day with little .30 cal stuff as well as trowing some 750 and 800 grain bullets at it.

I think this thread is full of examples; good examples, bad examples, and good examples of bad examples.

I found this thread being entertaining and sometimes informative. One of the take aways from this thread is a reminder to myself to read and listen more than I type and talk.

You first join the FCSA because, I think Dave still gives a discount for FCSA members. Then, you call him and let him know that you want an upper capable of beating me (use my real first and last name) at FCSA sanctioned matches. Then, you give him more money than you'd have to give me for 3 of my vehicles and wait for him to ship you your upper straight to your door. Don't forget to tell him you want it chambered in .510DTC. If you want a complete rifle from him, I'd suggest ordering it through EBR Works. If you're serious about getting a 50, we need to sit down and talk.

My pick for best budget long range rifle would be s Savage 12 LRP in 6.5 Creedmoor.

Don't need to change a thing on it out of the box, they're a tack driver as is. It performs well with factory ammo if you don't reload. The factory ammo is pretty easy to score.

Creedmoor holds it own against the exotics and it better IMHO than 308 across the board.

Plus you can usually get one under a $1000.

Technically that may be true but it's such a small difference that no one will see it. If you are concerned about powder column you aren't shooting either the .308 or the .30-06.

The .30-06 is a more flexible round in almost every way except carry/supply logistics. The .308 is not ballistically superior in any way shape or form. The argument about mil ammo is completely unreasonable and anyone talking about shooting precision anything is either shooting Federal Gold Metal Match (lapua or norma match) or they are handloading, there are no other reasonable conversations to be had about precision ammo.
