Thanks for the article, I think my moa seems to have gotten better with the vais brake, when I shoot prone, I pull the mat up under the brake.Old article with some interesting info., recently reposted-
Vais website, click on all the tabs and enjoy the read. I have several different brakes, including a couple Vais copies, it's effective and reportedly quieter than others. Quiet being a relative term. Since you're shooting from the bench, I wouldn't worry about the bottom holes. If you do decide to go prone on dirt, put a mat under the muzzle or just remove the brake.
Been wanting to see/try one of these: Rat Worx - Big Chubby muzzle brake, looks pretty effective too.

After I had the vais installed, when I went to the range I fired with my wife behind me, she said it was only slightly louder, she didn't think it was that bad. 175gr. 308sigpic Waterborne!

Been flip flopping for years about getting a brake on my .308 Remington PSS too. I don't shoot it enough to have bothered so far though I still want to do it just to see what a difference it will make. I think I have too little time behind the trigger and that better for would help as much. I have read a benefit, is enough reduced recoil to be able to keep the target in the view of the scope during recoil. That would be worth it to me, but need to work on my form before I want to invest the money for a brake installation.Comment

I'm certain you will like the difference and have me put a brake on yours slightly after you try mine...Randall Rausch

Why does some super-sensitive pansy-azz guy have to chime in on every muzzle brake thread with crap like this. If a 30 cal muzzle brake bothers you, you need to go hang out on the rimfire range with the cub scouts. You need to spend a couple dollars more on hearing protection if it hurts your ears, or eat a little more if a 30 caliber "concussion" knocks you off your feet
I suggest you stay away from shooting ranges and guns.Comment

I shot my 243AI today at squirrels. Would have loved to have a brake on it to see misses and confirmed acrobatic hits through my scope.Comment

Accept no substitute. If you are skeptical, buy a slip on limbsaver to test, and become a believer. Then buy the real thing and fit it (or have it fitted) to your stock.
They are awesome.
If it still hurts and you wanna be like all the other aggressive in-your-face people in this thread, I like miculek style brakes best. They are effective and aesthetically pleasing.Comment
