A proper truing job requires a rebarreling and usually an oversized bolt body to take full advantage of the truing work.
I don't recommend doing that until you shoot-out or you can out-shoot the original barrel.

I have a serious love affair going with my 5R.

I have an SPS in jail now. I'm sure it's gonna do me right, up 500yds and maybe a little hunting. Can't wait to get it.

I bought an SPS Varmint and had a premium gunsmith cut and crown it at 23" and it surprisingly shoots amazing for a factory barrel. Wouldn't shoot worth a poop until he cut it.

The 5R hands down is the choice as I have seem over a dozen of them compete in our matches with great results over the years.

What will you do with it?

Answer this before you start any poll.

What is your budget, what distance are you going to shoot at? Is it for hunting, banging steel, or punching little holes in paper? Do you intend to carry the thing very far?

The stock SPS with a great scope, bipod, shooting mat, ammo, rangefinder, spotting scope, and spotter is capable of some pretty good stuff.

I think a lot of (entry/wannabe) long distance shooters get wrapped up in the gun, and forget about all of the accesories that go along with it. I would argue that a $1500 rangefinder, ballistic app, and $1000 scope on a $600 (SPS) rifle will get you making hits much easier than a more expensive rifle with cheap accesories.

just put a deposit down on a Rem 700 SPS Tactical AAC-SD 308. the 1/10 twist barrel put it over the top for me.

I like my AAC SD in 223 with the 16.5 barrel. The factory Hogue stock wasn't to my liking but I picked up a Choate Ultimate Sniper Stock. I'm happy with it so far as I'm working on loads for it. My first 3 rounds out of it with my first reloads with hornady 55gr spitzers could be covered with a quarter. 1 in 9 twist.
