I own 2 99C's in 308 they have the removable magazines. I wont use lead tipped ammo as they get deformed during the cycling of the action. It likes Nosler Ballistic tips just fine though. My brither bought one that has accuracy issues, I think the barrel is shot out, look into use, and history when buying. Very handy rifle for use in a Jeep. Thats why I bought 2 of the same rifle and caliber..

ResizedImage_1372726972308.jpgthanks for the posts guys love hearing about these rifles. I have seen some of these for sale on gunbroker that look like they need to be put out to greener pastures. It was kind of a toss up for me on the caliber I have a 308 M77 hawkeye in left hand so caliber commonality is a plus. But if I ever find one in good shape that is in 300 savage I might just have to buy it. Thanks for the tip on using Noslers ivanimal. Glad to hear there is another jeep enthusiast out there thought I would share. 1996 jeep Cherokee xj.

Duckman1 nice avatar! That is one ugly hog. You get any pigs with that 300 savage round? I want to go pig hunting so bad just have deer where I live. I just cant justify spending 600 bucks on a pig hunt. I will have to stick to deer and yotes for now.

Ok so just an update. I applied for my C&R license and just noticed this morning that the $30 processing fee has been taken out of my account. I am surprised it got processed that fast. Just gonna play the waiting game now tell it comes in the mail then its off to DOJ to get my COE.

Mine is a stone cold killer in .308. Its cheap (the .308s aren't really collectable) lots of good ammo, and just a great all around brush gun.

I just got one for $200 from an old timer chambered in .243.

Haven't shot it yet, but I'm excited to have another lever in my collection!

Savage seems to have always been maligned by the gun press. They touted the glories of the big three; Remington, Winchester and Ruger (which they barely tolerated). I remember looking at those 99's in gun stores way back when. I always thought they were funny looking and cumbersome. Now my tune has changed, I'd love to have on in either 303 or 250 Savage.

The Model 99 in .300 Savage was THE quintessential deer hunting rifle here in America for nearly 50 years. Before I switched over to 6.8 SPC, I used a .300 Savage 1947 vintage Model 99 for years. You should see what it does to hogs. In all truthfulness, I would be perfectly happy using it for any hunting I did here in North America. Moose and big bears included. I normally try to pick them up on gunbroker in the $350-400 range. You normally can get the .300 Savage versions in that price range because it is an "off" caliber these days. Most people don't consider the rifle or that cartridge to be all that sexy these days, but it will work just as well as most other hunting rifles out there, and still have that added cool factor that you just don't get with a modern rifle.

Not cheap from what I've seen in the last year. $400 gets you a dog, $700 gets you a nice 308 s99, and a beautiful pristine one over a grand.

I really want one of these: they look beautiful to me. I don't see the ugly that others talk about...

I've owned three Savage model 99's. Two 308's and a nice takedown in .250 Savage. I eventually sold them. Neither of the two 308's would shoot better than 2MOA, that is why I sold them. I do like the 99 Savage, but the two 308's just didn't shoot as well as I wanted them to. I'm sure you can find accurate ones, but I just had bad luck with the two 308's.

I own a Browning BLR 81 in .358 Winchester that is an accurate Rifle that I am happy with.

So I just received my C&R on Sunday. Now just need to get my livescan completed through the state. I am already in the system for my finger prints with the county I live in and State, and Federal. So Im thinking the process should go by quickly.
