First bolt gun?

What if you already have an AR but you want a bolt action that will shoot any ammo you have.

Just used my brother inlaw's Weatherby .223 bolt gun for some coyote hunting. I'd recommend it!

Then invest in more ammo for the AR.

You really don't get the point we're trying make about the difference between a bolt gun and a semi auto do you.

No I guess not. I do know you can neck size your brass for a bolt action to improve accuracy without affecting function though. Can you do that with a semi auto. I think it would be nice to have a bolt action that could shoot any ammo I have and still be able to turn it into a tack driver.

Given the choice, .223 will be way more accurate than 5.56 in a bolt gun. Again the point is if you're buying a bolt rifle you want to be the most accurate you can be. If you want to shoot 5.56 buy an AR.

All bench rest guns are bolt action but that doesn't mean that a good AR15 is not accurate. The National Matches haven't been won with a bolt gun in quite a few years IIRC. A good AR will shoot very good groups.

No doubt that an AR will out shoot most shooters and will produce sub MOA groups. However, my point is that if you want to build a highly accurate bolt gun, why would you build it based on a ammo that isn't the most accurate.

Again this is just my opinion and isn't worth the paper to print it on.

Hell no, and go take a look at gunbot.net there is plenty of sub $1 ammo if all you're looking for is cheap ammo.

I always want a Savage 93. My friend has one, and it is so much fun to shoot. Ammos can be tough to find nowadays, though.

The Mosin shoots cheap steel case ammo pretty darn good but they may be built better.
