You might be very surprised at how much a LimbSaver recoil pad reduces felt recoil.
Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

Just get a nice Winchester M70 that is already threaded and has a muzzle brake.

I mentioned the Weatherby Vanguard above. It's one of the better choices because the gun has some weight to it, is priced fairly low, has a decent trigger on it, and comes with a MOA guarantee.

+1 on the M1 Garand suggestion.
Or a Browning BAR with a BOSS system.

OK I'll add my .02 here.

I have a Ruger Guide Gun in .30-06. It is Bolt Action and comes with a Muzzle Brake, Laminated Stock and a Pretty Decent Recoil Pad.

The gun weighs 9 lbs. 7oz. as shown and is a Cream Puff to shoot. It is one of my Long range Silhouette guns so I fire between 40-50 rounds on a Saturday Morning with no after effects and I normally have the Thread Protector only mounted as none of my Buddies want to listen to a Muzzle Brake while they are shooting next to me.

The scope is a 1-5X Leupold. It has enough power for anything I'd ever do with a .30-06 I can get hits "Off Hand" at 500 meters, and really get hits Off a Rest at 500 Meters.

The gun has a Laminated Stock which is weather resistant and comes with spacers to adjust the LOP as necessary for any shooter.

On another note I have a "Smith Enterprises" Muzzle Brake on my Ruger Scout Rifle (.308) that will fit the Guide Gun. It virtually "Eliminates" Recoil on that gun. however it would be a good idea to wear serious Ear Protection as it is LOUD !!! https://www.smithenterprise.com/prod...-muzzle-brake/

Hope this helps you decide what you want to do.

I really wanted one of those guide guns. Kept an eye on gunbroker for like 6 months but could never find one in 30-06.

Wow, just looked at the Ruger Website and the "Guide Gun" which is available in .30-06 .338 Win Mag, .375 Ruger and .416 Ruger is now listed at $1619 MSRP!

                Says "Limited Availability?"
