Rossi .357 Lever -- problem

I had a Ruger RPR in 556 i had to send in.
It was considered unrepairable. My choices.
Return the broken rifle.
Rechamber the rifle to another short action caliber.
Or full refund.
I took the full refund. I had the receipts for the rifle and DROS. They gave a check for all of it including the tax.

Good thing i always keep my receipts.

Interesting. Did they ever say exactly why it was up repairable?
Either way, you did well to save receipts.

Had the same problem with a .357 revolver. Firing pin broke. Gunfighter tactical couldn't find one to fix it. Took me forever to find a smith who could make one. Cost more than what I paid for the gun 25 years ago.

If they're going to send you back a gun that's out of spec I wonder about the safety to you and liabilities of it to them.

The one thing I really like about the Firearms industry over most products is they usually stand behind their products for many years after the sale. Sometimes even covering the gun that is no longer in the hands of the original buyer.
I always guessed that it was a safety issue and they didn't want to be liable for any incidents or accidents that happened due to their malfunctioning firearm.


But this thread will help spread the word that Rossi does not stand behind their products.

Maybe when you request your rifle back, make sure it is with a detailed letter from the technician and casually mention that you're going to loan it to your personal injury attorneys so that they can do some live fire testing.



I'm just joking, I'm really not big on lawsuits but this sounds like they are making a bad decision and they just don't realize it yet.

How does that work? Do they replace it or just flat out refuse to return your property?

They will not send an unrepairable unsafe gun back because they don't want an unsafe gun with their name on it in circulation.
This is mostly an issue with handguns and the CA roster or with discontinued models where they don't have a replacement to offer.
They will not send an off-roster replacement gun if the gun you sent them is not repairable.
They will replace with the nearest model on-roster gun or give you a refund.

I don't think I want to make the $200 investment to ship it to the gunsmith to replace the ejector on a gun they say is unsafe.

Oh and by the way -- would anybody like to buy a Rossi R92 at a really cheap price? It is a fixer upper!

Yes it was a broken extractor, but they decided, totally unrelated to that, that the "frame was out of specs" and unrepairable. Who knows, maybe it was an excuse not to fix it, or maybe they are right. I am in Rancho Cordova and the gun was purchased in 2013 at a little gun store called "Action Guns" which is now out of business.

Maybe post this stuff up at Rossi-Rifleman.. Lots of good stuff there and they will know about the frame being bad.

Frame out of spec sounds like defective manufacturing on their part. They should explain or replace under warranty. I know, easier said than done. I have one so please keep us informed.

Probably not a bad idea, if nothing else you can use it as a parts gun. I have one and would buy it from you if I was local. Somebody who is that also has a Rossi should take you up on that.

My Rossi .357 revolver had a broken firing pin as well. Bought the gun like that at the first Lodi show in decades. Was NIB. Sent it to Rossi and the fixed it for free. PAX

If you didn't have receipt, would it have been possible to get a full refund of the msrp? Msrp is usually higher than what stores may sell for.
