New 22-250?

Had to take this out of the MLC threads, as this would be a bolt rifle. Seriously looking at re-entering the small caliber arena once again, and the 22-250 would be the one I'd get. Just a fartin' around walking desert shooter. Have the dies, a bunch of cases and bullets. Powders also[IMR 4064 and Varget]. Looking at the Mossberg Patriot walnut model. Maybe the syntheyic one, we'll see. But, this is looking like it will happen. Just to try something different than what I've been doing lately. Yep, another desert plinker!

I've never had a Mossberg rifle. But I have Remington 700 in 22-250 that is a decent shooter. But a little heavy to be walking around plugging rabbits. B.

A good buddy of mine who has lived and hunted in Alaska uses a Mossberg in 270. He has a bunch of other rifles but loves the mossberg. I’m sure he has killed 20 or 30 blacktail deer with it. I wouldn’t hesitate to by a Mossberg rifle at all…

When Cabela's has the Savage 12FV in stock, they might have the Ruger .204, a real screamer. It has a varmint weight barrel though, about 9 pounds.

You "might" want to shop around for a Rem 788 in 22-250.

That is what my 22-250 is. Birch stock, pencil barrel, fastest lock time of any factory rifle, inexpensive by most standards, not pretty. But most important. DEAD NUTZ FIRST SHOT ACCURATE. By that, I mean 5 shots into 1 1/8" @ 200 yds. Cold barrel 5 min. wait between shots.

As a hunter, that is my bench procedure. to ascertain where that FIRST shot from a cold barrel is going to land.

You will not find one for the $74.95 that I paid for mine in 1973 at Woolworths. But they do come up for sale from time to time.

Need to shoot copper non - tox if hunting anything in Ca.
I have found Copper bullets do not group as well as lead.
I have a remington 700 factory I believe 1:14 twist.
Dead on with Hornady 52 Amax.
All over with Barnes and others

What weight lead free are your shooting?

My 1:7 twist shoots 50 grain varmint grenades beautifully. They’re pretty long though, not sure how well they’d do in a 1:14.

Tried the Barnes 50gr
A 1/7 twist is good for the weight you’re shooting.

A CG member here has a 1/10 for his 22/250 AI and shoots 69 grn very well.
Considering doing the same.

I had a 788 in .308 years ago and foolishly sold it. Yes, they are VERY accurate. That's not a bad idea.
