Ruger CEO & Marlin Production on IG

I am absolutely bursting at the seams about the Marlin release. First they said the second half of this year. Then the fourth quarter. Well, we are just a couple days away from the fourth quarter and there hasn’t been a peep. Has anyone heard anything? Anything at all?

According to this gun talk radio interview posted yesterday, they'll be starting with the 1895 Stainless Big Loop in 45-70.

Then 336 in 30-30 and 1894 in .357

...receivers confirmed to not be cast but forged, barrels hammer forged.

Looks like my 1894 SBL 44 will probably next year sometime...summer?

So, microgroove barrels are history. They will use Ruger hammer forged barrels.

I confirmed with my guy at Ruger yesterday about the .45-70's being first.

Also 1:20 twist 1894 barrels for .44's and .45's.

Also some of the other simple mods like rounding the top of the hammer face and tumble deburring of internal parts. They are striving for no "Hand Fitting" of any part, which should be well within the scope of Automated Production at this time.

Once thru the "Testing Phase" of the prototypes they are expecting to produce 500 guns a day! They will make that target easily.

BTW, I can only see images posted in this thread when I view CGN from my phone.

I usually visit CGN while home and on the laptop... which is where I can't see 'em. Newer machine, too. Newer software, OS, yadda yadda. What in thee fo0k.

most of us have high hopes for a return to quality.
When they get done cleaning up the Marlin line, they can move to an improved #1.

Marlin could not make a profit trying to keep the quality up and went bust. Ruger will figure out the cheapest way to make a sellable product that they can mass produce on a line that resembles the UAW.
"Improved" to Ruger means cheaper to build. They spent a lot of money cleaning up and improving their Red Label shotgun only to have to pull it off the market in less than 3 months because it was areal POS.
The No1 was Bill Ruger's halo product - I've got 7 of them and they need no improvements.
The bean counters control Ruger and ALL thing are controlled by the bottom line. My rule of thumb is not to buy a Ruger built after he died.

That is only an opinion.

While the Henry is improving for sure, I'd still rather own and shoot a properly-made Marlin, of which examples do exist. Where they do not they may be put right in most cases.

With Ruger now manufacturing Marlin lever rifles and carbines, we can be somewhat certain of a return of the quality-made Marlin.

This is very true. I love watching Henry add excellent lever action models as the company matures and evolves. The quality is really something to see, especially the wood they use for the stocks, excellent.

Having said that, my heart is with Marlin and has been since I was a little boy. My Dad loved Marlins and hunted for decades with his Model 1936 (which I now own). He liked the pistol grip vs. straight stock and the side eject feature.

I started my Marlin collection with a 39a followed by a 336 (30-30) and then a Model 94 in .45 Colt.

Interesting with the 94, it sat on the rack at our local Big 5 for months, nobody touched it. I finally decided it needed to come home with me and I'm glad I did. Excellent companion to my Ruger Blackhawk Bisley in the same caliber.
