300Blackout4life---You are not a hunter. Yet you know "the BEST bullet for hunting" ???
A bit arrogant and stupid and wrong.
The interlock Hornady and many other Cup n core bullets are good under certain conditions in certain cartridges.
Other cartridges and conditions do better and really require a "BETTER" more expensive bullet such as a Swift bullet or Barnes or Nosler or Northfork or Bear Claw.
Something else is that the most accurate bullet or load is not always the best for what you are hunting and the cartridge you are using.
In Calif we now are required to use lead free bullets and in the 308W I like the 130gr TTSX Bullet by Barnes. For other states I would use 150gr Sirocco or 150gr Nosler Partitions. Hunting with a 338win mag/257R/257W or 30-06 in Africa(and other states here) I like the Swift A-Frames and have had excellent one shot --no tracking--kills with them.

You really need more knowledge, research and experience before you make such foolish statements. Just saying.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

For a meat gun look at Browning X-Bolt Composite Stalker.

Both Kimber and Barrett make some nice hunting rifles; I especially like how Barrett's bolt action feels (really smooth yet tight tollerances).

Which Barrett? Fieldcraft? What's the bolt throw on those?

My basic rifle in possession is a SPS Remington 700 in stainless with a 24 inch sporter contour barrel. The stock is Hogue Over mold with a bedding block. It weighs 44 ounces. So I have invested in a Bell and Carlson Alaskan which weighs 32 ounces. And some PTG aluminum bottom metal.
I went to the range today and shot the Remmy for a couple of hours. 175gr Lehigh Defense Controlled Chaos, 2620fps see accuracy in the pic below. 12 shot group 1.85 inch by 2.1 inch at 100 yards. What say you. A2

I feel like you have an excellent rifle to start with that is showing very respectable accuracy?

                A couple thoughts:
                1. Maybe make sure scope isn't shifting from shot to shot?
                2. Try a handful of other cartridge brands in the 168g category? The 1:12 twist barrel might favor them.
                3. Consider how you’re stabilizing the gun, with foam blocks, sandbags and/or bipod. Maybe they’re moving shot to shot?
                4. maybe put a trigger weight gauge on the trigger and see how heavy it is? Could be a timney (or other aftermarket) trigger could help?
                5. Finally, maybe have an experienced shooting partner watch you shoot for signs of flinching/breath control issues? I had someone coach me on my pistol shooting and it made a big difference.

If you have not done so, lap the rings and then torque to spec.

In looking at your target pic, the first shots up and left were likely due to a cold barrel, and the group got better as the barrel warmed up.

Be sure you have a good cheek weld, and are not lifting your head during trigger pull.

I couldn't agree more on this. Like MissiontoMars, I had a friend observe my technique with both rifle and pistol: made a big difference.

                  Keep after it A2!
