    Marine Snipers use Remingtons.

Tikka T3x Hunter in 6.5 Creedmoor using 140gr pils. Look at your caliber/bullet weights and then compare sectional densities. Chuck Hawks has a good article discussing SD

You might consider a polymer stocked Ruger GSR, in either stainless or blue.
Robust, compact, accurate, has very good iron sights, and two options for optic mounting. Current polymer magazines are very good; three and five round versions are either flush or protrude very little.
I've got three GSR's (two polymer stocked, one wood laminate), all in .308, and have had great success carrying those for distances on hunting trips.

Remington Model 7 mountain rifle or a Tikka T3Lite.
Polymer stocks are the lightest if carry weight is a concern.

Barrett Fieldcraft is around 5 lbs

I personally love my Christensen Arms Mesa (not the long range version). It's in .308 and around 7 lbs.

Whole nuther thought for ya. I've got a Browning BLR in .243 (they come in .308 too), that is an absolutely, fabulous, light weight rifle. Compact Leopold 3x9 on it. Carries all day easy and if your trip to WY involves any ponies, it slips under your leg better than a lot of bolt guns.

Something to think on. I don't get to use it much though, cause usually the wife or one of the boys or the daughter has it. It's like the entire family's favorite rifle.

Here is some reading material regarding Sectional Density of bullets.

                      Chuck Hawks Sectional Density

It would appear that those Swedes knew what they were doing back in 1891...

I to am looking for a light weight hunting rifle. The rifle that I am looking at now is the Rem. Model 7 in 6.5 CM. with a HS precision stock.

Henry Long Ranger. It will look better on the side of your horse.

The Kimber Adirondack is cataloged at one of the lowest weights out there. under 5 pounds. I have shot one once, if you mount the rifle correctly the felt recoil isn't horrible.

If money is no issue, there is always the model 20 from New Ultra Light Arms. From what I hear these are good rifles. never fired one my self, but people who's opinion I trust have said good things about these rifles.

The Barrett Fieldcraft rifle has it's roots in the New Ultra Light Arms rifles. They bought the tooling from the latest attempt to mass produce the NULA rifles. not sure how close the current production is to NULA, but it's got a low cataloged weight and price wise is in between big name production and NULA. And being a Barrett, even if there is a lot of deviation from NULA, is very likely still a quality rifle.

if these are outside your budget, like others have suggested the Rem 7 or Tikka's are something to take a peak at.

If you want a control round feed rifle without breaking the bank, check out the Winchester Model 70 "featherweight" comes in under 7 pounds per the catalog. probably the heavier end of "lite wight"
