    Randall,

The first 9 were the ones to the left. The 3 shots in the orange were the final 3, this is with the 175gr Lehigh Defense. I am not impressed with its accuracy. I was able to hit small and large gongs at 200,300,400 yards. Maybe I am just *****ing for no reason. I bought some 165gr E-tip, and 168gr GMX. We’ll see A2

Sako Finnlight I or II, they also make a carbon light, these would likely be as good or better than any mentioned so far. But the cheapest is $1600. I own one in 7mm-08 and it’s everything it’s cracked up to be. Another choice would be Browning X Bolts - maybe the new Hells Canyon speed. I’ve owned several X-Bolts and they are just about as good as a Sako with the exception that they have a polymer magazine. Both brands will shoot better than you can hold.

Why promote a Sako but not a Tikka?

The OP said you wanted to buy a new rifle, but now it looks like you're just looking for advice on fixing up your Remington?

If you do want to buy something, look at the Weatherby Mark V Ultra Lightweight. 5 3/4 pounds, 1 pound more for Magnums. Hand lapped barrel. $2300 msrp but I've seen it for $1300-ish online.

My basic rifle in possession is a SPS Remington 700 in stainless with a 24 inch sporter contour barrel. The stock is Hogue Over mold with a bedding block. It weighs 44 ounces. So I have invested in a Bell and Carlson Alaskan which weighs 32 ounces. And some PTG aluminum bottom metal.
I went to the range today and shot the Remmy for a couple of hours. 175gr Lehigh Defense Controlled Chaos, 2620fps see accuracy in the pic below. 12 shot group 1.85 inch by 2.1 inch at 100 yards. What say you. A2
I have a R700 varmit 308 with a 26 inch barrel. Standard stock and a Leapers scope. I easily hit clays at 200 yards with standard ammo.

Figure out what you want it for, find the best bullet/caliber to do the job, pick out the features you want, then shop the rifle that fits all of the above

Since you already have a Remington 308, maybe a Remington AWR 7mm mag.

                          LOL. And that is OK!!!

thread has given you a lot of food for thought. take your time to process it.

Since you do have a rifle now, experiment with it. take it out in the field, carry it around, move over / around obstetrical. setup improvised targets, shot them from improvised field positions. Cooper's Art of the Rifle is a good field shooting reference.

Take those lessons learned and apply it to your next rifle or how you will modify your current. if any questions come up, ask away. someone is bound to know the answer or where to find it.

Both Kimber and Barret make some light rifles, though they can be a bit expensive. They both have a great feel to them, though, as I got to hold someone else's. F.Y.I.

This is a target that my 17 year old son shot at 100 yards with his Tikka Tx3 Lite using Federal 168grain ammo. He posted the photo to his Instagram account.

I bought this left-handed gun for him (he is a lefty) and he is lucky, because I would have taken it back from him if it was right handed and kept it for myself!
