Oh that's right. Silly me. Rule #1 doesn't apply towards rifles with fixed tube magazines.

    On a serious note:
Will the Henry Rifle in question feed properly without the brass colored magazine tube liner?
When you are handling the firearm, rule #1 applies. When it is rendered inoperable with the hammer down or the action open, it is safe to work the tubular magazine.

Good lord, tubular magazine .22s have been around for 100 years and nobody has thought of handling them as being unsafe as long as the firearm is completely disabled. How the hell else would you clean the barrel with a rifle rod?

And the tubular fed lever gun has been around for 150+ years.
I really don't get why people keep bringing the "unsafe" argument up witb these guns.
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

Safety is attitude between the ears

Old time MDs who are still with it have plenty of hand injuries stories relating to tube fed rifles. And some of you old timers
know darn well of near misses while reloading tube fed rifles. Heck, the YT guys demonstrating the Henrys don't act overly concerned
and make no or little reference to caution relating to design.

Safety is attitude between the ears.

With that said, there are some firearms designs that are more forgiving than others. As far as the cleaning rod, rifle maintenance is
usually performed off the firing line after shooting is over. Where as reloading, more times than not, occurs on the firing line frequently.

The OP, if memory serves me correctly, was asking for opinions about Lever gun features. In short, with the original design, there
should be little or no reason to ever have your hand forward of muzzle afield or on the firing line. No 'ifs' or rationalizations. And, I could
be wrong on this, if you loose the tube liner you are now the proud owner of a single shot lever rifle.

Safety is keeping your hand away from the barrel when loading.

Keep your hand away from that part of the rifle barrel called the muzzle.

I saw on Forgotten Weapons that Spencers have to be held at a certain angle to work the action. I've never held one but the Italians make a Spencer replica.

That Henry is a beautiful gun. The loading gate looks a little tilted down, I don't recall seeing anything like that before.

I see they have added 410 and 45/70 to their list of side loaders.

If it's that difficult for some people to load/unload using a tube fed lever rifle, they probably shouldn't be handling firearms in the first place. Scheese.

I hope Henry continues to offer both options. IMO, if they do, they won't be able to make enough of them.

I haven't looked at these in a while. Guess I should go see what calibers and options are out now, as I still love the idea!
