        Fun day!

        Looks like it! Great stuff!

Hey, Spyder, what does your CSBL's bore look like? Only curious. I'm assuming you've seen my report on my SBL... and I'm hoping it is redeemable.

It's dirty now, but peering down it with a bright flashlight at the open breech, it looks good to me otherwise.

            Hey Spyder
You heard anything about Mendocino National Forest?
We used to shoot near the HighGlade Lookout but it was closed because of the fires?

Not sure where highglade is, but I've heard rumor M1 and several others was supposed to be closed. I've got a bear tag, I oughta run up and poke around the area. Pills is probably still open.

I just gave the bore another close look... and it's not as bad as I first thought.

Yes, there is tool chatter and some surface damage to one of six lands, and two of the grooves don't look perfect... but the damage isn't deep and I think this bore will be a fine candidate for pressure lapping.

I have an appointment tomorrow early afternoon with Randall Rausch/AR15Barrels and he's going to stick his experienced eye in there and have a look see. He will render! his educated opinion on the matter, we'll both sigh, lament the decline of pride of crafstmanship and then have a few laughs.

                I'll report again tomorrow afternoon.

That's my add, I didn't notice the missing rail. Its looks a lot better without the rail.
I don't know why, I thought you bought the SBL in 357, not 44. My shoulder hurts just looking at it.

Yah no. The .357s listed in the OP are the CST (threaded, no rail, and black textured furniture), the CSBL (non-threaded *Spyder had his threaded by a gunsmith*, picatinny rail, laminate furniture, and the SBL which is the .44 Magnum version of the CSBL... details! man.

                      :leverz:

I went with the .44 because I've .347 and .41 covered. I've always wanted a stainless Model 1895 (.45-70 Guide gun) but didn't need to utilize the massive cartridge... this new .44 in an stainless 1894 was just the ticket! and loads featuring a .44 300 grain bullets don't hurt as much as I thought they would.

Think Wind River Light (Wind River is a movie starring a Model 1895 Guide gun and actors Jeremy Renner and I think one of the Olsen twins).

I like the pistol grip and semi large lever. All of my lever guns have the straight grip.

Of course if they all had the pistol grip I'd want straight..

How is the rear peep sight adjusted on the csbl or sbl?

I was handling one today and I see a set screw on both sides of the rear sight, are those both for windage?

The ghost ring on my SBL like the one you looked at works like this:

Loosen both setscrews 1/2 turn to free the screw-base of the ghost ring for elevation. Tighten each setscrew 1/2 turn.

For windage, loosen one screw then tighten the other. knowhatimean.

And, golfish, I know what you mean.

                              @200Apples thanks...

Looking at your sbl ... You can take the rail off and leave the rear sight on? I thought the sight was mounted on the rail... Guess I'm remembering wrong... Is there any screw holes to fill once the rail is removed

agent, forgive the delay in my reply.

The SBL rear sight sits on top of the pic rail, and sandwiches the rail between it and the top of the receiver... I called XS Sights and mentioned I wanted to set up my SBL as the CST is setup. CST uses no rail, same rear ghost ring pedestal but a shorter front sight (because the rear sight sits lower as it is directly on top of the receiver...).

XS sent me the lower front sight and shorter screws for [Edit: the rear sight pedestal]. I can't recall (even though it's only been a week), exactly, if shorter screws were needed for the rear sight pedestal reposition... I think I just installed it directly onto the receiver using the same screws. I'll get back to you after I examine the SBL later this morning.

The screw length when changing the front sight, however is critical because the mount screws' bores are only so deep. The front sight pedestal thickness differs between the two. Edit: The lower front sight blade has a pedestal the same height/thickness as the taller front sight blade. The mount screws are the same for both sight blade heights. XS sent me shorter screws for the *rear* ghost ring pedestal, since it was no longer sitting on the rail. - Apples
